I can't take it anymore!
No not quitting the game, but is there any way to make a null sound for that awful, annoying warning siren that goes off every time a pirate attacks a freighter? I've already installed the user made improvement, but it is still too annoying. Pop-up good...annoying beeping sound - downright evil.
Any ideas leads or any ideas how to go about it?

Yeah we lack in a not-so-annoying mod. I checked the mods myself, and all the sounds posted are equally annoying

RE: I can't take it anymore!
dude you have mods for this [:D]
Or you can simply modify the file to your own liking !!!

RE: I can't take it anymore!
disable the notice... forget the annoying sound, I can't see any other notification because I literally get SEVERAL of those notifications a SECOND in larger games.
So I disable them completely.
You do know that if you disable the notification for attack in both the popup AND the ticker at the top it will not make the sound, right?
he is using the mod, he says the mod is still too annoying.

Well I have the mod already on the forums, it is not quite as annoying, but still annoying.
Secondly, if I knew how to fix it myself, I'd have already done it. I lack the technical knowledge on creating sound files.
And just to give you an idea, after 17 years of working in EMS (Emergency Medical Services) and hearing beeping pagers, beeping/wailing radios, and wailing sirens every time I turn around...I just can't stand to hear them at all anymore. The default sound sounds too much like a radio tone, and the mod sound sounds too much like a siren on phaser setting. A buzz would actually be an improvement, but honestly no sound at all would be ideal. [;)]
Knowing that, you might now understand why I find it so irritating. [:@]

You could probably just delete the sound file and be done with it, although I'm not 100% sure about that. Otherwise take your preferred sound effect (or just load up ye old fashioned recorder program and record a few seconds of silence) and rename it to match then replace the existing sound with your new one.
Edit:
If you don't have a preferred method of recording sound, the "ye old fashioned recorder" program can be found (assuming you use Windows) under the Start Menu -> Programs -> Accessories

Ow after reading your posting I totaly understand it [:)]
Well surfing on the net to find a good wav file is very tiresome.
You can try star trek they have allot of *.wav sounds on the net.
Some guy I know, simply took a *.wav they liked from an other game and pasted it in the primary folder + renaming.
And then simply copied over the original DW message_alarm.wav

And just an update, made a simple wav recording and now...
Silence is golden, but my eyes still see... [:D]
So it really is that simple to get rid of it.

Honestly, having a wave of Darth Vader saying 'I sense something.' would be better, but for now, I just made a silent recording. At least I'm not hearing sirens in my head anymore. [:)]

Anyway you could upload it? Been playing all night....I feel like throwing my speakers against the wall if I have to listen to that annoying beeping sound anymore lol.

I'm at work right now, but when I get home I can zip it up and upload it. Works great, pop-up still comes up, but no sound at all.

Like I said in the original thread, they can make this ungodly complicated game, then they mess up on the little stuff.
I can't believe that the people beta testing this game didn't notice this. It truly is unbearable.
