Progress - Time for a new tidbit.

Post by wpurdom »

Seems like its been over a month since we got the screenshots or any sort of semi-official comment on how things are coming? Can Matrix throw us a tidbit to hold off our ravenous appetite? Some new screenshots? Any comment at all on the progress being made?

Hello...

As far as code goes, I have been working mainly on the Uncommon Valor version 2.0 patch. Keith has been working mainly on engine speed optimization and file compression. Gary has been working endlessly on artificial intelligence. He has just about finished the Japanese opponent and has laid the basic strategy for the Allied opponent.

As far as design goes, we have been working on new rules for the seven weather zones, coast watchers and native intelligence, signals intelliigence, new malaria and cold zone effects, expantion of the Intel screens, expanding the rules for load capacity of differing ships for various kinds of cargo, torpedo and mine depots and tenders, Japanese and Allied victory and auto-victory conditions, cargo ship aircraft crating and transport, interface additions, resource utilization and war production, scenario thumbnail maps and games maps and rules for Soviet, Red Chinese and Nationalist Chinese involvement.

We still have a bit of design and a lot of coding to do.

We hope to make the game something you will enjoy.

Bye...

Great info Mike. I can't wait for this game. This will be a "classic" game.

Just a few suggestions from a UV player:

1) provide the player with more info when he pauses the mouse over a unit, such as its destination, whether it has cargo, percentage of damage, out of ammo, etc. This would help save a great deal of clicking on each of the units.

2) indicate graphically on the strategy map which units have already received orders - either with a symbol, or having the unit in question be dimmed.

3) include a "N" hot key to allow scrolling through units.

4) provide options to allow the player the choice of closing each individual "Combat Summary" screen. For example, I don't need to see the combat summary screen for subs, but I do want to see the combat summary screens for air and naval engagements.

5) include a highly detailed campaign editor. The more options, the better. Allow the player to tweak every aspect of the game.

Keep up the great work. I'll be looking forward to watching this game progress. :)

Cheers!
