For your previous customers is there anychance....?

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

For your previous customers is there anychance....?

Is there any chance the Est Editor could be released for COTA or HTTR for a small fee? That way previous supporters of the series who can't afford the new game could for a small fee get the Est Editor there by opening up the possibilty of new user made scenarios. In that way you keep your old customers happy. HPS update their previous games so everyone benifits. I would pay £5 for it.

I'd say it's very unlikely given what Arjuna mentioned in the Future Directions - Data Content thread:
What we have in the works already are some scenarios covering the HTTR battles. We can't just use the old HTTR scenarios as too much has changed to salvage these. So they havge to be rebuilt from scratch. We have already converted the maps. The BFTB estabs include the HTTR estabs. We have developed five of the large scenarios so far. One option is to develop a suite of say 10 or so scenarios and release an expansion pack for HTTR. We could probably do that over the next few months.

Another option is to convert the COTA estabs. This will be a fairly big job. From there we could develop and release a COTA expansion pack. The COTA estabs would provide options to cover a lot of the pre 1943 battles on the western front. They would need to be further exanded upon to cater for specific forces in say the western desert theatre, France 1940 etc.
Sounds like the engine has changed significantly in the past few years, thus making compatibility no simple task.

No such plans at present Wodin, sorry, I wish I could say yes. As Llyranor noted, it's more of a technical issue as to why not, there's a lot of work necessary.

Sorry wodin, but I've been rather busy. It was my daughters 21st birthday tonight and I have only just ushered the last of the relos out the door.

Ths short answer is that the EstabEditor won't work with HTTR and COTA estab files as we have added and modified the estb data structures for BFTB. However, BFTB estabs do include a full set of HTTR estabs and we have started the task of recreating the HTTR scenarios from scratch. We couldn't just use the old ones for the same reasons as we couldn't use the estabs.

BTW please check your PM.

Does that mean you are planning to release HTTR scenarios for BFTB? I'm very much interested in this game as it is and was wondering about using the estab/editor to create Market Garden scenarios. Think I'll talk to the wife, buy 2 more gigs of ram and make a gaming purchase.

Dave,
Any miore news regarding the recreated HTTR scenarios?

Also, now that HTTR has been out for a few years would it be possible to supply a MGEstab XML file? You say that the Marget-Garden Estabs are in BFTB but there is quite a difference in the number of items in the MGEstabs & BFTBEstabs, for example under Army in MGEstabs there are 89 items but under Heer in BFTBEstabs there are only 17, unless of course you changed names.
I am struggling with creating the forces in BFTB for one of the HTTR scenarios, for some of the items I can't find an exact match so have to hunt for something similar checking strengths etc.,very time consuming.

It's extremely tedious and time consuming to get the HTTR information ported over for use with BFTB, but thankfully 90% of the OOB and Map work had been done already by yours truly, including bio's, unit strengths and characteristics, etc. The maps also needed extensive work on the roads near rivers for mixed mode movement, and I made several other map edits to fix errors I found on the Arnhem and Eindhoven Maps. I'm fairly certain that I got every estab I needed from HTTR, but I don't see why Dave couldn't include the old xml file with the add-on.

So you may want to spend your time on other endeavors, as finishing off the HTTR conversion is next on my plate, I believe.

I was wondering if anyone was doing something in that direction ?

I have only just got BFTB and had not tried its predecessors - much to my loss. I'm now keen to have a look at the other games- only thing dissuading me is that the BFTB engine is obviously an improvement on the earlier versions.

I find CotA is better than HTTR as the UI is improved....I think CotA is worth buying...

Gameplay wise not really...nothing you'd notice...have look at the BftB forum and see what new features BftB has...the obvious differences are being able to see a detailed breakdown of equipment and being able to time attacks etc...apart from that the UI is pretty much the same, the UI improvements over HTTR when CotA came out where fairly noticeable and I found it alot easier to play.

Also there are some good user made scenarios covering Malta and Norway and a few set in Africa...
