How to get these guys out of bed and back fighting?

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

How to get these guys out of bed and back fighting?

Post by GBS »

Playing the Tutorial I followed the prescribed orders with the 51st Tank to attack accross the bridge with no rest. Everything went well. The 51st was quite tired so I went to their task and changed no rest to normal and before long they were asleep. I set a new order to move up the road north but I set the start time to four hours later to allow them to rest up a bit. The start time came and went and nothing happened with the 51st still resting. I looked at there rest task and it showed a duration of 8 hours +. I couldn't do anything to get them to accept a new order while resting...I MUST be doing this incorrectly. Please explain and advise on how and why to use rest.

You cn Cancel any order (including a rest order I presume), by clicking on the order button and pressing delete. I think that selecting the unit and pressing delete does the same thing. However since that order comes from the top HQ, it can take a while before all the resting units get it - but not 4 hours.

However whatever order you then give the units, if they are tired enough they may decide to rest anyway. You can control this to some extent by the rest options on the bottom of the orders screen, but I think this only applies to how far they will carry out the given orders before they stop to rest.

GBS,

Try this. Change the Rest option to No Rest and drag the objective a short distance. Let me know how that went.

Sorry Arjuna, I just got back here. That worked. It looks as though one needs to set the rest option to none to wake troops up or interupt rest. What I would love to have is the ability to give them a rest order and then another action order at a delayed time sort of like an alarm clock.

I agree that would make more sense......

Yes that would be good. It's called sequential tasking. It's one feature I would really like to add as I believe it would add another dimension to the game if you also add in "triggers". Imagine this. You place a trigger icon at a town, just like you do an order. Set its area and then a condition, like enemy enter. Then you order your force to rest. You hold the Control key down and order the unit to attack the town. You then link the trigger to the start of the attack. The AI would then rest the force until the enemy entered the town. Then it would automatically end the rest task and start the attack. Neat hey! [8D]
