What time is the battalion expected to arrive?

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

What time is the battalion expected to arrive?

Post by Fred98 »

I issue a move order to a battallion.

Select a few waypoints and have the unit move from "A" to "B".

What time is the unit expected to arrive at "B"?

Joe,

Unit pathing is the third line of tools below Mot and Non-Mot.

Joe 98,

Once the orders have been propogated - ie the the unit you ordered to Move has received its orders and developed its plan - you should be able to select the unit task for that unit. It looks just like an order taks icon but has a grey background rather than a white one. See page 69 of the Game manual on how to select the unit task.

Click on this and it will show the task data which includes the estimated finish time. See page 154 of the Game manual for screen dump and other info on unit tasks.

What you are seeing is your order not the unit task. The unit task is what he has developed as part of his plan to fulfill your order. As I said above, see page 69 of the Game manual for details on how to select the unit task. For most cases you simply select the unit, hold down the control key and hit the down arrow on the keyboard. Try it and let me know how you got on.

Yes that agrees with the instruction on page 69. And no it doesnt work.

After a further test, I find you have to run the game for 2 seconds and then it works.

I found a problem.

I give a unit a move order.

I want to know what time it is expected to arrive so it coordinate with other units.

Give the order.

Run the game for 2 seconds.

Stop the game.

Now check the units and find out the estimated time of arrival.

We should be able to check the time of arrival before giving the RUN command.

I don't think it is a problem per se. As I understand it, you give the unit an order, it then translates that order into what it's going to do. For example you could give it a move with "safest" and it will then figure out the safest route and set itself to move there. The information about how long it is expected to take is attached to what the unit is *doing* as opposed to what it was *told to do*. By waiting those two seconds, you basically let the unit turn your command into an action which contains the information you are after.

Joe 98,

You use the unit task to see the subordinates scheduled finish time. For it to generate this the orders have to propogate down - hence you need to wait for a few game minutes. On the other hand if you are after an estimate, then you need to use the pathing tools. Just select the unit, then the unit path tool, then click on the destination and it will instantly generate a route for you and the estimated duration is displayed in the sidebar.

I do recommend you watch the tutorial movies where things like this are explained.
