A tip of the day (German OOB)

Post by HauptmannJake »

I searched through the iconxxxx.shp files in the SpWaW Shp folder and spotted a fine 88mm FlaK18 icon which is not in use in the SpWaW ver. 7.1 or H2H OOBs. I wonder why not. Perhaps this is forgotten or something but the main thing what I'm trying to explain is how to get this fine icon in use.

1. Open the SpWaW edit and select the German OOB 70.

2. Find unit nr. 132. It should be 88mm FlaK18.

3. Change a new Icon number from 667 to 62.

4. Save first and enjoy then .

HJ - Take a look at the availability dates for the different 88's - I haven't looked but that may explain why you aren't seeing this particular piece of equipment. If that doesn't solve the problem, then you can always make a Formation of the missing 88 - change the dates to encompass the entire WAW spectrum - you will have ALL the 88's available that way. That can get a bit tricky however.

If you need help, post the OOB unit #'s and we will take a look at it.

The answer - no problems at all!

Sorry I have been busy but the answer is:

Bing - Perhaps I just said it unclear. I didn't mean I had a problem with missing 88's icons. In the game when using unedited ver. 7.1 oob 70 I still see this original 88 FlaK18 - icon (which doesn't actually resemble very accurately FlaK18 AA-gun, I think). The thing I'm pointing of is there is another 88 icon which is not in use already.
This icon is located already in the following icon file:

Icon0017.shp (in Chlanda's PG Shp Ed version 0.48 choose image nr.26)

and how it can be taken in use in the game using SPWaW OOB editor:
just chance the icon number using this information included in
Icon Data List-September5 (shp folder):

{1724,P_ERROR}, //62. hvy flak

So, the 88mm FlaK18 AA / 88mm FlaK18 AT icon number must be chanced from 667 to 62 located in the German oob nr.70.

And what else can be done?

also the real Panther II/Panther F icon can be taken in the game (instead of the previous grey Panther G icon)

{24420,24422}, //785.Panther II SPC redo

Do like the above, chance the Panther F/II icon number from 719 to 785 now located in the Czechoslavakian oob nr. 15 .

I think these chances should be done in the official 7.1 OOBs too. Here are the newest 7.1 oobs (official, not custom) with only icon changes. Also included the two icon image files in bmp format (just for that you can see the difference).

And thanks for the friendly answer.

Ach so - I understand now. Yes, that does happen in the game. The entire business of icons, their use and the way they show up in the game is extremely complex. It is easy to overlook certain icons, or have the wrong icons show up.

There are even stranger events, such as a machine gun firing when a missile is launched - when the unit doesn't have a MG. Long story but it does relate to the icon file SLOT that was used.

When you change the 88 icon, be sure to test throroughly: If you get away with having the correct game behavior congratulate yourself. Schnapps all around for the crew!

If you don't - you are going to have some real fun.
