Where are the reviews?

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Where are the reviews?

Post by Knavery »

Hey folks --
Where are the reviews for Command Ops: Battles from the Bulge? I'm really getting into CoTA after having purchased it a couple months back. I may want to pick this one up as well despite the price. But unless there are a few reviews, I doubt very much I'll pull the trigger. Thanks!

Here's one from Sugarfreegamer. LINK

Don't know of any others yet, but I'm sure they will be popping up soon.

I think that it'd be great if some reviewers actually took some time to play the game before sharing their thoughts.

Might take a bit longer than usual, however. [;)]

German review is coming soon.

I was quite busy this week and didn't find much time to play.

Nah, I'd rather go the Gamespot route and decide on a score based on how much advertising revenue the publisher gave. Pony up, Erik!

Guess it doesn't count as a review, but James Allen (outofeight) twittered this:

"Command Ops: is very excellent. Quality AI, supreme detail, editors for units and equipment. $80? If you like these games (I do). Demo soon."

Looking forward to hearing your views, James. For me, your site has become one of the true review sites with integrity especially for strategy gaming.

I don't know how you manage to fit in so much in a month. I'm a gaming butterfly, landing whistfully on loads of games as I flit between bright shiny new petal here and there, but I rarely have enough gumption to post up in depth reviews, my musings always seem to be the inevitable "first impressions".

Hey guys,
I've really been thinking about picking this one up despite the price. Although I think the price is too much, I've heard some very valid arguments why it's worth it.. Not to mention I have CoTA and HTTR.

I am concerned about one thing though... Both CoTA and HTTR have pretty much sat on the shelf since I've had them. I've played around with CoTA and spent about two hours on the tutorials. I really do love the system. However, I'm curious if anyone else was in the same boat of not really playing the other two, but has found BfTB really mind-blowing.

My original argument still stands--that I buy way too many games to justify the cost of this one, which is really just a flaw on my part. However, I'm seriously considering it after hearing how killer the AI is.

Finally, I'm curious if the battle names used in the game can be searched on the internet for more information. See, I don't really have enough historical context of the battles themselves, and wouldn't really enjoy playing through them without some background. Thanks!

Yes I too am in that boat. Am still studying the details and will do a write up in a week or 2.

I could always see that the game engine has potential but with the other 2 I just never "got it"!

They could do a little more to help orient the non-historian IMO, but here's a scenario map that's in the back of the manual.

Well, Battles from the Bulge is the best game in the series and it is more intrinsically compelling than the previous games. I think this has to do with the AI and how competent it is now: it feels more and more like a true opponent. That said, if you didn't really play the previous games much, I don't think BftB will be a strategy epiphany. Though it is very good.
Keep in mind that the complete editing suite should soon/eventually result in a plethora of user-made content. So it's got that going for it, which is nice.
