Sorry, but I don`t buy your reasoning. Here`s a not so new idea, sell the base game at a decent price and then release DLC later at a reasonable price too. Lots of game publishers are doing it and are making nice profits doing so. You can make yourself a millionaire overnight by just writing a small app for iPhone or even iPad. 1 mil units sold on iPhone at 1 buck per unit = millionaire. Walmart are billionaires a few times over by selling stuff for cheap. That`s what the public wants, listen to your public.

Yes I do understand that and I welcome the feedback and I do respect peoples right to provide that feedback. I also respect peoples right not to buy our game because of the price. But equally I expect others to respect my decision to set the price. They might not agree and can argue the reasoning but there is no call for rampant speculation nor some of the comments which border on slander and libel that have been made over the last two weeks on all the forums. That type of behaviour has no place here and will not bear fruit.

I've been one who has complained about pricing in the past - IIRC with some of SSG's titles.

But the difference between that and what I've seen on this forum is just spitefulness.

It's this specific type of behaviour that pushed Breakaway Games out of the PC wargame market almost a decade ago. Dare I say, I was once caught up in that fiasco too. That was when the Usenet started its long death spiral as a useful resource for the wargaming public and I'm ashamed to have seen it happen.

hey folks I have followed the umpteen million posts and threads since BFTB was released, and without question, the posts for a new release game is or almost is the heaviest traffic I have ever seen for a game on this board. The most wonderful that we who live in a democratic society have are the rights of freedom of speech and force the choice of a poor description, free trade, the ability to sell our product or labour at a price we can set. Now everybody is happily expressing their right by supporting or condemning Panther's right to set what they see fit as the right price to make a living out of this release. Now the problem I see developing now there some people who just want to express their opinion on price on just about every thread that starts up on this topic, I wish that these people restrict their comment to the huge thread dedicated to the price topic, and let people who have bought the game get on with life and enjoy the threads on tactics, bugs, and help.

I guess at the end of the day, if a fifth edition of this series is made, Dave and clan was right. If you take the positive traffic on this board and the few reviews released so far, into account, in my opinion there will be a fifth, but time will tell.

What I don't quite get and this could be just my ignorance of the Australian market is the price in AUD. Is $92 AUD pretty typical for a game there? It seems steep but I guess I don't really have a good idea. Any Australians care to chime in?
Regardless, it looks like the current exchange rate in the store is. 87 USD per AUD. Today its already about. 83 so you are already making out on the exchange rate since you're being paid in USD. How am I as a customer supposed to feel happy about that? How quickly does the store adjust? I might consider this if the exchange rate goes to about .75 or less and the store reflects this.

My local store (the biggest in Australia) Military Simulations, stocks the full boxed range of Matrix games. Here's some full retail prices AUD for when its current sale ends:

Conquest of the Aegean $80
Highway to the Reich $60
Battlefront $88
Commander Napoleon at War $90
AGEOD's American Civil War $88
Crown of Glory Emperors Edition $90
Harpoon 3 $88
Other Matrix games average $60.

Based on these prices, I'd expect a boxed version of BFtB to sell for a full retail of at least $120 AUD. And it will sll out. I'm expecting World in Flames PC to retail for $150 AUD boxed. If its AI and multiplay both work imo, it will sell like hot cakes.

This is a very legimiate point but Aussies have felt the brunt of this too. Only a couple of years ago our exchange rate was at .60 USD. When our dollar improved we didn't receive an immediate benefit from Matrix either. Erik at the time explained that this was just impossible for Matrix to do.

Unlike Amazon who I believe adjusts its prices daily, I don't believe that Matrix has the the infrustructure nor interface with Digital River to adjust its prices so freely. Matrix can please correct me on this as I'll gladly be proven wrong.

Thanks Adam, I feel more comfortable that I'm not being fleeced by the developer. Still doesn't make me comfortable with the US price but I understand that's nothing Panther games can do much about. As long as DR adjusts the price reasonabley with the exchange rate, then I will just wait till the rate becomes more favorable. Though I guess that a good situation for me makes it rougher for you Adam!

The issue is 1st we are told the Raising of the older games was to pay for making this, then you back pedal and say no no it is the exchange rate.

Your best course of action is to stop replying, call Matrix and get your stories straight.

Because at this point you sound like some one who is having trouble keep track of stories.

The truth is much easier as it does not change every few days.

The looks great, and I am still considering, but it would have been easier if I did not have to wonder if I was being "played" by Panther and Matrix.

Just because something that you don't like has happened - ie the price of a game that you want has increased - doesn't translate to a conspiracy. Stop seeing the worst in people and give the benefit of the doubt before you start running off at the mouth.

Enough of the tantrums folks. It's time we moved on. We are not going to be lowering the price of BFTB any time soon.

The used to be in the warehouse at Jedko Games in Moorabbin since I was a kid. I think the shop has been open in Bentleigh for 2-3 years now?

[:)] call them or visit them online - a big chunk of their business is mail order, all points of the compass. This is one realiable company and they'll order/pre-order on demand too.

yep I Jedko well, spent lots of money there AH board games in the early 80s bought my first PC game too, in fact I bought Fire brigade there for my Amiga, now we are talking dark ages. One other place I use to frequent was Napoleon Bkshop in Elizabeth st is that still there do u know?

Napoleons is still going but I found Hylands Bookshop and haven't regretted it since! They live on mail order too.

However, talking about prices, the Yanks just don't know how hard it is for Aussies to buy books locally. Because of a weird wholesale protective tax scheme we're paying double, triple and sometime quadruple for our books. Amazon has been the saviour for me and every trip I take to the States, I'm bound to come back with a bag full.

Rudd (the Aussie Prime Minister for out of towners) was meant to be fixing this and giving us better access to the global book market. Try paying $50 AUD in an Aussie Borders for a military paper back that costs just $12 in a US Borders Yanks. [:D]
