AI Games

Post by Richard III »

The old very inexpensive Bulge game from SSG was one of the best wargaming experiences I ever had. I am a fan of SSG.

But.........before I drop $100 + to get Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets and ATD 2nd. I`d like to know how the "New" AI is VS a human player ( I have no interest in H to H ) and how much re-play value in terms of hours is there in both games ?

Will the AI respond with new tactics to different human player tactics.

Is this a scripted or dynamic AI ?

Game play wise I get close to 40 hours for ATD2 playing the Germans and I am currently playing the Russians and each turn is close to 2 hours long for me.

There is an option in the game for hidden units that mixes the start up each time and I think there are 10 or so different variables.

As far as the AI goes it is very capable and if you make mistakes it will punish you, I find game play to be very challenging myself.

It is pricey, no doubt about that.

However considering you also get the Husky scenario in Italy I would class this game as a buy. It was a hard pill to swallow for me but I bought it and after playing as the Germans in ATD I give it the two thumbs up and a snap endorsement.

The bulge game is included with Korson Pocket and also as a separate download for Battles in Italy. Money wise there is no better deal than Battles in Italy and if the Kharkov price is to intimidating than I would get that.

Go over the SSG site and see for yourself.

Thanks Targ

Decided to buy it. I must be the worlds worse SSG player, if only I could win as the Germans[&:]

Heh,

Getting a draw in ATD is pretty common against the AI. It has been said that the battles taking Smolensk had more to do with Germany not capturing Moscow than the Mud.

ATD is a 20 turn scenario with Victory Points (VP) awarded each turn for enemy units destroyed and objective cities held.

A draw or marginal/decisive/overwhelming victory is awarded at games end based on the total VP difference between players.
