SUBJECT: COMBINED FLEET WAR PLAN 1 -Phase 2-
DATE: JAN 27th, 1942.

After 4th Infantry Division have captured Koepang at Western Timor, our Naval Forces are ready to begin with 2nd phase of COMBINED FLEET WAR PLAN 1:

-1st Air Fleet under VADM Nagumo will support landings at Merak and Oosthaven, then will turn to southeast-east to smash all enemy airfields at Java.
-Mobile Force under RADM Tanaka will close support our landings and will engage enemy surface force if spotted.
-CARDIV3 will heading North from Timor and will blockade Soerabaja and Tjilitjap by the western approaches to Java.
-CRUDIV7 will support landings at Merak.
-CRUDIV8 will support landings at Kendari.

-1st and 3rd Yokosuka SNLF (Parachute Special Units) have been drooped over Proeboemelhi and will be supported by IJA 1st and 2nd Parachute Regiment. These units will be our advance guard at Sumatra. Palembang will be our final prize.
-38th Infantry Division (1st Echelon) supported by 2nd Landing Force (19th & 20th engineer Regiments, 2nd Mortar Bn and 10th & 20th Mtn Gun Bn) will capture Djambi and Palembang. These bases will be garrisoned by Sumatra 2nd Echelon (51st Field AA Bn, 18th JNAF AF Bn, 4th JAAF AF Bn, 85th JAAF AF Bn, 23rd AA Regiment). Labors units will be sent if neccesary.
-XVI Army HQ with 8th Tank Regiment and 17th Medium F.A.Regiment will arrive to Kuching awaiting orders to be redeployed at Sumatra-Java.
-22nd Air Flotilla will support Southern Area Army transport assets. When Palembang will be captured, 22nd Air Flotilla air supperiority assets will be sent at once.

-3rd Air Division have get absolute air supperiority over Malaya Peninsula and Singapore.

-21st Air Flotilla will support from Tarakan our landings at Balikpapan. This HQ will be transfered to Balikpapan to support our landings at middle Java.

With 6 Fleet Carriers, 2 Light Carriers, 1 Escort Carriers and 6 Battleships in Java Sea, supported by nearby 600 aircraft (400 from carriers, 200 LBA) our forces will succesfull accomplish their missions.

H6K4 NAVAL SEARCH FLIGHT HAVE REPORTED ENEMY NEARBY TARAWA ISLAND WITH 1 FLEET CARRIER, 1 LIGHT CARRIER AND 1 BATTLESHIP. 15 enemy ships have been spotted.
GENERAL QUARTERS IN ALL IJN FORCES AT MARSHALLS.
FOLLOWING SUBMARINES HAVE BEEN ORDERED TO SHADOW AND DESTROY ENEMY FORCES:
I-7, I-26, RO-62, RO-65 and RO-67.
ALL FREIGHTERS (2 AK, 1 AKL, 1 TK, 1 AO) HAVE BEEN ORDERED TO DEPARTURE TO NORTH PORTS AT ONCE.
NIGHT TORPEDO ATTACK WILL BE RELEASED BY H6K4 DAITAI IF ENEMY POSITION AND BEARING IS REPORTING AT NIGHT.

SUBJECT: ENEMY SHIPS SUNK
DATE: JAN 28th, 1942.

This early morning one of our F1M2 naval search flights have spotted several warships in the sourthern approaches to Java. One AMc was reported hit by our F1M2. Two attack waves were ready to take off from our carriers:

1st Wave with 10 A6M2 escorting 12 B5N1 attack an minesweeper sqdrn near Banjoewangi sinking 1 AMc (RINDJANI) and 1 B339 downed (2 on CAP)
2nd Wave with 3 A6M2 escorting 9 B5N2 attack another minesweeper division near Denpasar sinking AMc ADJOENO by torpedo hit.

Our forces will be split in two:

A) CVL ZUIHO AND BB HARUNA TG. will bearing 70 to head to Balikpapan and support landings there.
B) CVL RYUJO AND CVE TAIYO will blockade Western Java waters.

SUBJECT: JOHORE BAHRU BATTLE
DATE: Jan 28th, 1942.

Yesterday, Jan 27th, our forces began an assault against enemy defensive positions at Johore. Our forces reported enemy fortification size 3. This day our assaulting forces lost 231 men vs 259 allied casualties reported. Today, our ground forces have launched a second assault, reporting 158 IJA casualties vs 415 CW men lost. Fortification leve have down to size 2. Tomorrow all air assets from 3rd Air Division have been ordered to support our assault over enemy positions.
I hope we can announce the capture of Singapore in two weeks.

DATE: Jan 28th, 1942.

(1) MALAYBALAY -Mindanao Campaign-

21st Air Flotilla air assets have strike Malaybalay enemy positions yesterday and today too. Jan 27, our pilots reported 16 casualties on 102nd P.A.Inf.Reg and today another 21 casualties on 3rd Constabulary Regiment.

Today our field commander have ordered the first assault to probe enemy defenses. Enemy fort level is 1 and enemy lost 278 soldiers vs 287 IJA casualties reported.

(2) AIR WAR

Manila was raided by our 5th Air Division air assets like following:

Jan 27, 1942: 48 Ki-27 escorting 81 IJA bombers reported 11 casualties on 102nd P.A.Division
Jan 27, 1942 (II): 13 unescorted Ki-21-IIa strike Cavite USN B.F. reporting 1 vehicle destroyed.
Jan 28, 1942: 12 Ki-27 escorting 16 Ki-51 and 20 Ki-48 were intercepted over Manila by 7 P-40s. We lost 2 fighters in dogfight and our pilots reported 21 casualties on 102nd P.A.Division.
Jan 28, 1942 (II): 11 unescorted Ki-36 were intercepted by 4 P-40 at CAP over Manila. We lost 1 Ki-36 downed by enemy fighters.
Jan 28, 1942 (III): 13 unescorted Ki-21 were intercepted by 4 P-40 over 1st P.A.Division positions at Manila. 1 Ki-21 was downed.
Jan 28, 1942 (IV): 46 Ki-26 escorting 23 Ki-30 were intercepted over Manila by 2 enemy fighters. No air losses confirmed.

Enemy B-17 strike Port Princesa yesterday, Yokosuka 2nd SNLF reported 14 casualties.

3 P-26A were intercepted over Cabanatuan by 6 Ki27b at CAP over our airfield. Several enemy fighters were damaged but no air losses were confirmed.

(3) MANILA

Jan 27th, 1942, our XIV Army artillery units reported 36 enemy casualties in our bombardment.
Jan 28th, 1942, our XIV Army artillery units reported another 57 enemy casualties.
Tomorrow, Jan 29th, our forces will assault enemy positions supported by 5th Air division assets

SUBJECT: BURMA CAMPAIGN REPORT
DATE: Jan 28th, 1942

Our attached air forces have reported several air attacks over enemy positions, like following:

Jan 27th, 1942: Toungoo ground attack mission with 25 Ki-30 escorted by 26 Ki-43 from Chiang Mai, reported 24 enemy casualties from 6th Burma Rifles Bn.

Jan 28th, 1942: Toungoo ground attack mission with 25 ki-30 escorted by 26 Ki-43 from Chiang Mari, reporting 12 enemy casualties from 6th Burma Rifles Bn.

Our fighters intercepted 7 blenheim IV flying over Chiang May reporting 2 blenheim downed.
At Moulmein, our pilots reported 3 blenheim I were intercepted by our Hayabusas with 2 enemy aircraft downed.

Rangoon have been bombardment by our ground forces. Tomorrow we will launch a first deliberate attack against this base. I hope in this week we can announce the capture of Rangoon.

SUBJECT: OPS. OVER SUMATRA
DATE: Jan 28th 1942

2 A6M2 from Yamada Daitai flying from Singkawang in LRCAP over Probomoehli have intercepted enemy air raid over our parachute units at this base. 1 B339 downed.

Our airbridge from Kuching to Probomoehli will transport rest of 1st Yokosuka SNLF and will send after the Yokosuka 3rd SNLF with Para IJA units in support to march north to cut road between Djambi and Palembang.

Tomorrow our air assets will support Sumatra naval ops with LRCAP, naval search and Naval attack air missions.

Koepang expeditionary forces reported 13 enemy P-40 fighters destroyed at ground.

(1) COMBINED FLEET NAVAL AND AIR OPS IN JAVA SEA

HIJMS KUMANO REPORTED ENEMY ML No.310 was sent to botton by 1 shell hit near Tandjoenpinang.
Near Batavia, HIJMS HAMAKAZE reported 5 hits or near misses on enemy british SS pinged from early morning by our destroyer screening 1st Fleet carriers.
2 enemy searching aircrafts were downed by our CAP over K.B.ships (1 dutch 139WH3 and 1 PBY5 nationality unknown).

Air Raid over Batavia by 1st Air Fleet : (CARDIV1-CARDIV2) 7 A6M2 escorting 72 B5N2 and 63 D3A1 strike enemy airfield and ships anchored in this base. AM BALLARAT and AM TOOWOOMBA were sunk after struck by our diving bombs. 93 runway hits and 2 enemy bombers destroyed at ground (139WH3) were reported with lost of 1 B5N2 & 1 D3A1.

Air Raid over Bandoeng by 1st Air Fleet : (CARDIV 5). 7 A6M2 escorting 54 D3A1 and 54 B5N2 strike enemy air facilities reporting 1 enemy bomber destroyed at ground (139WH3) and 22 runway hits.

Air Raid over Kalidjati by 1st Air Fleet: (CARDIV 2). 7 A6M2 escorting 18 D3A1 and 18 B5N2 strike enemy air facilities reporting 22 runway hits. No air losses.

Tomorrow our forces will support our landings at South Sumatra (Oosthaven) and will smash enemy airfields at Java.

HIJMS ZUIHO TG reporting enemy XAKL DE HAAN was sunk by our B5N2 after 4 torpedo hits in Java-Borneo shipping lanes.

22nd Air Flotilla HQ (RADM Matsunaga) reporting 3 enemy AMc were sunk by our torpedo bombers from Kuching near Oosthaven. They were AMc MMS C, MMS B, MMS A.

(2) ASW EFFORTS

PB Nanpo Maru reporting 6 hits on a enemy submarine off Lae (USN P class)
PB Menado Maru reporting 2 hits on a dutch coastal SS off Kuching.

(3) SUB WAR REPORT

xAK Alaskan was torpedoed and sunk by I-18 near Isle of Pines (N.Caledonian)
I-172 was attaked by enemy destroyers after tried to get a good position to launch her torpedoes against enemy warships. No hits or damages were reported.
Our Patrol lines at south Marshalls and Gilbert area reporting no sighting of enemy carrier task force.

07:10z, HIJMS CHIKUMA OPENS FIRES AGAINST ENEMY DESTROYERS. ALL BATTLE LINE SCREENING CVL ZUIHO.
07:20z, HIJMS KISO LAYS DOWN SMOKE SCREEN.
07:35z, HIJMS MIKAZUKI LAUNCHES TORPEDOES. 1 TORPEDO HIT DESTROYER KORTENAER. ENEMY SHIP SINKS.
07.40z, THE OTHER ENEMY DESTROYER HAS COMMENCED RETIRING TO THE EAST ON COURSE 70 DEGREES, SPEED 30 KNOTS.
07:55z, ENEMY DISENGAGE. CONTACT BREAK OFF.

At 11:05Z naval search float plane from HIJMS MAYA REPORTS "TWO ENEMY WARSHIPS SPOTTED OFF BALIKPAPAN, SPEED 4 KNOTS, BEARING 190. FIGHTERS AT CAP. I AM HAVING ENGINE TROUBLE AND I AM RETURNING".

At 11:35z 9 B5N2 escorted by 3 A6M2 take off from HIJMS ZUIHO flight deck. 1 HOUR AND 20 MINUTES LATER, our aircraft radioed two enemy minesweepers sinks. Enemy ships were identified like AMc AROE and AMc Alor. 3 enemy fighters were at CAP over enemy ships and we lost 2 B5N2 with 1 enemy fighter downed by our Type-0s.

I am heading North-Northeast, bearing 30, speed 20 knots. I hope to rendezvous with Balikpapan Landing force in two-three days to support landings there.

SUBJECT: ENEMY ENGAGE after Amphibious TF Request.
DATE: JAN 30th, 1.942.

YESTERDAY at Aftenoon, enemy was in sight from Landing Force reporting 3 enemy unidentified warships due bad visibility conditions. Today at early morning our Battleships engage the enemy, they were only 3 smalls minesweerpers. They have been a good entertainment for our gunners. All of them with all hands rest in the bottom.

At morning we receive income message from HIJMS ABUKUMA reporting landings without news at Oosthaven. Our ground forces will capture this base tomorrow without delay.

I am awaiting to Support Landing Force and 2nd Echelon to keep away from escort duties and join with Main Body. Our naval search Floatplanes have not reported enemy sightings.

DMS W-19 reporting 3 hits on enemy coastal submarine off Oosthaven. The same SS was pinged by HIJMS ARARE screening AmphGroup. Another 3 hits or near misses were reported by our destroyer.

One F1M2 from our ASW air unit have reported one hit on enemy submarine (USN) off Oosthaven.

Following Air Groups take off from our carriers to strike enemy targets at Java:

(1) BATAVIA STRIKE UNIT

Weather: Light Cloud, good visibility.
Commander: LCDR Shigeru Itaya (AKAGI)
Type and number of aircraft: 44 B5N2 and 34 D3A1 (CARDIV 1)
Air combat: no enemy aircrafts on CAP
Ammo expended: 114 #250 Kgs GP bombs.
Results obtained: 2 139WH3 and 1 PBY5 destroyed at ground. 28 runway hits.

(2) BANDOENG STRIKE UNIT

Weather: Severe Storm, bad visibility.
Commander: LCDR E. Murakami (SORYU)
Type and number of aircraft: 7 A6M2, 53 B5N2 and 52 D3A1 (CARDIV 2)
Air Combat: No enemy aircrafts on CAP
Ammo expended: 158 #250 Kgs GP Bombs.
Results obtained: 1 Vildebeest, 1 Buffalo and 1 139 WH3 destroyed at ground. 13 runway hits.

(3) KALIDJATE STRIKE UNIT -Afternoon-

Weather: Heavy rain, poor visibility.
Commander: LCDR K.Takahashi (SHOKAKU)
Type and number of aircraft: 7 A6M2, 18 B5N2, 18 D3A1 (CARDIV5)
Air Combat: No enemy aircrafts on CAP
Ammo expended: 54 #250 kgs GP Bombs.
Results obtained: 1 FK-51 aircraft destroyed at ground and 18 runway hits.

(4) TJILITJAP STRIKE UNIT -Afternoon-

weather: Thunderstorms. Poor visibility.
Commander: CDR.A.Akira (ZUIKAKU)

Air Combat: no enemy aircrafts on CAP.

SUBJECT: ENEMY ENGAGE
DATE: JAN 30th, 1942.


Yesterday at afternoon we receive an incoming message from HIJMS CHITOSE AT KOEPANG reporting an enemy light cruiser 240 nm north-northwest of Timor Island. Decision to turn to south was taken at night and we are bearing 160, speed 15 with naval search air missions in 0-240 arc.

Radio message from HIJMS MYOKO Floatplane reported "two enemy warships 120 nm north of our positions, bearing 330, speed 12 knots", due poor visibility our aircraft can not report class or type.

Thinking in the posibility of a light cruiser was heading Soerabaja we launched an attack unit with 12 B5N2. One and half hour later our aircrafts reported two enemy minesweepers were sunk near Mataram island. These ships were identified like AMc Smeroe and AMc Merapi.

I AM VERY PROUD TO ANNOUCE A NEW VICTORY FOR OUR EMPIRE. RANGOON HAVE FALLS IN OUR HANDS. OUR FORCES LAUNCHED A MASSIVE ASSAULT AGAINST ENEMY SOFTEN POSITIONS REPORTING 3.914 ENEMY CASUALTIES WITH ONLY 677 IJA MEN LOST. (342 ENEMY SQUADS DESTROYED WERE REPORTED).
AT MAIN RAILROAD TO TOUNGOO, III/143rd I.BN REPORTED ANOTHER VICTORY WITH 499 ENEMY CASUALTIES.

OUR FORCES MUST TO TAKE A REST TO RECEIVE REEPLACEMENTS AND SUPPLIES. GARRISON UNITS ARE COMING WITH SUPPORT (AA-AV.SUPPORT) REQUESTED.

3rd AIR DIV HAVE BEEN REQUESTED TO SENT A NEW FIGHTER DAITAI FROM MALAYA OR RESERVE WHEN 1ST JAAF BASE FORCE WILL ARRIVE TO RANGOON (AT SAIGON YET).

I WILL HOPE TO CONTINUE WITH MY OFFENSIVE IN FEW DAYS WHEN MY LOGISTICAL SITUATION LETS TO MARCH TO NORTH AND CAPTURE PROOME AND TOUNGOO.

TO: GEN. Heijime Sugiyama, Imperial japanese Army General staff. IGHQ. TOKYO.
SUBJECT: NORTH CHINA OFFENSIVE (Ist Army)
DATE: Jan 30th, 1.942

Yesterday, Jan 29th, 1942, our North China Area Army have launched a massive struggle against Chengchow to liberate this city from chinese bandits. In our first assault 110th Infantry Division with 7th, 9th and 15th Mixed Brigades supported by 32nd Div (A Det) smashed enemy positions defended by 15th, 40th and 98th Corps. The enemy fortification level was downed to size 2. Enemy losses were reported 2.362 vs 442 IJA casualties. 185 enemy squads were reported destroyed at ground.

Today, I can annouce the capture of Chengchow and destruction of three enemy corps with the lost of 4.410 chinese vs 328 IJA casualties. Another 160 enemy squads were reported destroyed. Our forces will head to Loyand to capture this base at once supported by pincer movement by our armoured units.

Air assets have redeployed at Hankow to support our southern pincer for this operation.

Heavy enemy troops concentrations at Loyang (1.200 AV).

Hi Traskott, for sure [:)], but I will must to fight for Mandalay-Shwebo in the next month. I will probably need two month to get Indian frontiers (that I will no cross, it´s out of my target). I will need to improve my logistical support (garrison units, AA, Av.Support, Construction units to fortify as much as possible) to defend my conquests and keep them impenetrables [:D]

I took an eye on your AAR and I must to say you did an excellent work !.
