Retrofitting unfinished ship caused them to go away unfinished

I was building these warship when I got an advance in the beam weapon field. I knew I was taking some risk, but I tried it. And both of them left the station unfinished to be retrofitted at another space port... without habitation module or fuel. It's weird, because of the missing graphical part, the thruster flame appear beneath them

I noticed the same thing, but in my case I tried retrofitting a starbase that hadn't been finished. Notice the completion message and the design size of the base (which is way too small).
