Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem

Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem is a highly enhanced new release of Close Combat, using the latest Close Combat engine with many additional improvements. Its design is based on the critically acclaimed Close Combat – A Bridge Too Far, originally developed by Atomic Games, as well as the more recent Close Combat: The Longest Day. This is the most ambitious and most improved of the new Close Combat releases, but along with all the enhancements it retains the same addicting tactical action found in the original titles! Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem comes with expanded force pools, reserve & static battlegroups, a troop point buying system, ferry and assault crossings, destructible bridges, static forces and much more! Also included in this rebuild are 60+ battles, operations and campaigns including a new enhanced Grand Campaign!

Thanks Jomni. I don't subscribe to the newsletter so was unaware. Maybe I'll rectify that now

You guys all must know that the Original "Close Combat II: A Bridge Too Far" CAN be played with widescreen resolution...

Go Start - Run - regedit -
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Close Combat\2.00
Edit the ScreenX and ScreenY values to your liking, f.e. your desktop resolution. After this you cannot enter F8 Options Screen again or you will have to do it again, rather change the options from regedit.

Your CC2 should now look like these:

Come play it on GameRanger.com

- SkyStrike, GR: 321656

----
P.S. to stay on topic: I dont look too thrilled about that new CC5 look. I like the original CC2 campaign, requisition, AI and small maps.

Thanks for the tip...

also I'm confused about the CC2 remake....it looks more like a CC5 mod...

It is clearly Close Combat The Longest day modded and set in the Market Garden operation.

Nobody said it is a re-make of CC2.

Well I honestly can't recall if anyone used the word remake or not...but I genuinely thought it was the same game and engine and prettied up...I didn't expect any major changes and certainly not to the campaign engine.

I can't say whether I'm disappointed about that or not as I can't remember the specifics of the game and what I liked about it so much, but I would've thought the campaign engine was part of it.

Players used the word on numerous occasions. The developers remained silent on the matter. This is traditional in the Close Combat World [:)]

Quted from the newsletter
Based on the original Close Combat title depicting Operation Market Garden, Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far, the remake is slated for release some time this summer.

Black and white then! I do hope nothing major has changed. I would definitely like to get the old feel back of that game. It was second to none in the series imo

So can you choose which sector to resupply? Haven't seen that in the screenshots.

I loved CC2. Alone or with Mods. I think I still have it somewhere. Nevertheless I will get the remake. I got CC3-Iron Cross after I played the original one. And I do not regret it!

So yes, I am looking forward to it! [&o]

This is probably the only CC remake I would buy. The original was easily the best in the series and playing on expert as the Allies was still almost impossible no matter no bad the AI.

That's probabily because of the supply / purchase points system.
If the "remake" uses battle groups, I don't know how it will pan out as it actually made CC4 and CC5 less challenging.
Hoping for the best... would be nice if they figure something out (like a hybrid of both campaign systems).

Maybe Battle Groups with supply points?  That way, I can't just select the best troops the first time around.
There's also a mod for locked battle groups but that is way too restrictive.

That's fine I wasn't taking anything from that form of view, just merely presenting "my own". I can play the ones I have on my Netbook now anyways. [:)]

Netbook's are amazingly expensive for what you get. thanks for driving up hardware prices for all of us by purchasing a re-packaged calculator! Why don't you just give them 20% of your disposable income each month while you're at it? [:D]
