excessive retreating

Post by Nikolaj »

I'm currently playing the tutorial scenario, and I have a tank company that's behaving rather strangely. The D Coy 37 Tank Btn has been given a defend order on the east river bank, by the AI, but every time it moves over there it immediately retreats towards St Vith. It's done so 5-10 times by now. I assume it's because of the german HQ behind the woods, although that unit shouldn't be threat to the tank company.

What does the log say - is it under fire, or being bombarded? There may also be another enemy in the woods that your intel has not picked up.

It just says "retreating" a bunch of times. There is another unit in the forest, but I believe that it's quite a bit to the east. It's a base. Other than that, the forest is clear.

However, I checked the threats for the tank company, and it's threatened by the HQ for a short while, just after crossing the river (I didn't think it could shoot that far through the woods, and in any case, it's not firing). But I'm also wondering why the AI isn't pulling the unit out, since it's holding up the entire battalion, and they're all exhausted.

If you can attach a save game I could run through the AI's thinking to find out why it retreats each time.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that it is very tired and this might be what is pushing it into retreating each time.

So after trying and failing repeatedly, does the AI ever say, 'ok, screw it'?

I think formations fidget excessively.
