Does this also have the F11 cheat?

Post by balto »

I love PBEM. I stopped with WW2:ToW because of the F11.

This game looks like it could be a great PBEM.

Does it also have that crazy F11 thing (or something like that) that allows someone to just create PPs for whatever nation it wants?

If it does (I NEVER understood why anyone would want that in a PBEM game), can you make it a choice in the OPTION setup? For example, have a button that says "ALLOW F11 KEY TO TRANSFER PP." That way everyone is happy. Of course myself and MANY others would chose "NO", but heck, to each his own.

I think I am going to get this anyway, but I would not do PBEM with the F11 thing.

Thank you - looks good.

nothing happens that I can tell when hitting F11. F12 does call up the event screen. Guess you could write an event to generate PPs perhaps?

The F12 button allows to modify PP for selected country.
However if somebody would like to cheat, it is possible to do the same thing by modifying countries.csv file.

If memory WW2:TOW memory serves me correctly (and it may not, I shelved it a while ago), you can easily see if someone modded the country.csv. The F12 is something you cannot trace.

If I am wrong, I apologize. But I think my point was that all mods (or cheats) can be easily detected EXCEPT for the F12. Is that correct?

That's a really useful feature, as I am adapting the play to more represent army organisation and the breaking up of units rather that disbanding them (losing 50% PPs). You can make units up to Corps level, but it's nice to be able to split these down into divisions when needed. I can now achieve this, by disbanding Corps units and building and re-deploying the equivalent division sized units. The F12 feature allows PPs to be added to operate these organisational changes, without compromising real production. Need to work out what is a reasonable PP allocation for these administrative changes, without getting an unfair production advantage.

I don't use army size units, as I think they are too large for the hex scale, I prefer to create separate HQ units, at weak division size and place the leader there, to provide a bonus to other units in range. This way, I create Army and PZ group organisation, with appropriate separate HQ units.

WW2-TOW and SotP get better and better, the more you find out what they can do. [:)]

That is a great reason exactly why F12 should be removed. Rasputitsa, do you really think you can unilaterally do all that in a PBEM and the other person is like, "Yeah that is fine."

In my initial post I was saying that there should be an option to disable the F12. I have a more clear and better idea.., how about you disable F12 in the PBEM mode. There is no way something like that should be allowed in PBEM.

I have a feeling I will get nowhere with this just like I made no headway in my posts at WW2:TOW. I am just disappointed when I see this feature that no other game has, and for good reason. Heck, throw an extra 500 PP into Research using F12..,how would your opponent know? Wait, 1500.

I am still getting this game, I will just will use the AI until I get sick of it. Thanks again.

Not to speak for Rasputitsa, but I'm sure he was referring to single player enjoyment, and that's a creative idea he has that I like. I didn't know about F12, but sure, get rid of it in PBEM to keep people honest.

Well I haven't played a pbem game of anything since the original Combat Mission, but I would soon enjoy trying it again with SOtP. I can assure anyone whom I might play against that I would never entertain the thought of cheating. So, if there are any other honest people out there I'd like a little more time getting to know the system and would then really enjoy a PBEM game.

What I am doing is for personal use only and not PBEM, the point I am making is that the game has so much potential for the user to mold it to their own taste. I would not want to remove anything, just when we are getting a game that is so flexible. Have some adjustable settings for PBEM, use passwords, have warnings for tampering, but don't close down any options in the game to optimise for any group of users. The magic is the wide appeal to 'beer and prezels' and grognards alike. [:)]

To emphasis what I am thinking, there have been comments on not being able to stack units. The alternative is to build units up to Corps, or Army level, where space is short, or concentration is required. This is effectively stacking divisions into a one unit hex. As the situation changes it is usful to be able to split units down again. The game option is to disband the Corps, or Army, and take a 50% PP hit. I think you ought to be able to reorganise ('disband' in game terms) a Corps, or Army, and re-deploy the equivalent division, or Corps sized, units, without that much penalty (If you are scapping un-needed units, as the Germans decommissioned ships to create infantry, then 50% loss is realistic).

I am trying to create a more realistic command and organisational structure, for my own use, it is not a cheat. I will be using the F12 feature to restore PPs after reorganising units (maybe with a small PP loss to cover administration, or transport, penalty). The further penalty is that the independent divisions, or Corps, have to be deployed from the nearest city, which will create a movement penalty to get back into action.

The alternative is to play at Easy settings to have the PPs available to operate this organisational flexibility, which ends up with unrealistic PP levels. So I say keep the F12 feature and I agree with an optional block for PBEM play, if that is possible. The main thing is that the game is providing a fantastic level of options and modding capability, let's keep it that way. [:)]

Thanks for the link, like the screen. I see the need to stop misuse of the F12 feature in PBEM, but I find it useful to adjust PPs to pay for the reorganisation of units already paid for. It is not intended to get a production advantage during AI play, so is it likely that F12 will be retained, with the addition of this warning report ?

Unless there is any intention, in the development of the game system, to allow the break down of larger units into smaller corps, or divisions, of the same equivalent strength points, F12 is useful in the mean time. [:)]

It is difficult to reconcile F12 lovers and F12 antagonists... F12 stays as it is, but cheaters in PBEM will be revealed.

I do not know how to reference other threads in the FORUM.., but thank you so much for your new feature that addresses the PBEM F12 problem. Wastelands is the GREATEST!
