Sweep and select target question

Post by Tatoune »

When I order a sweep mission and I "select (a)target", I noticed after each turn that the AI "reset" the target selected and I have to give the order "select target" again for each turn, and only for sweep missions. I mean all other missions remember the target.

Why, Is there a reason for?

Screenshot please and more info. The target is normally retained in memory so there is something more than disclosed which is not quite right.

Are you sure you set the range according to your target?
If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?

Good to know that I'm the only one[8|]

Ok, I uninstalled the game, re-install it + patch 1106d and still the same... And more surprising, I get the same result on my desktop AND laptop. Here's a screenshot take before the end of the turn and the turn after all battles.

If I should email my savedgame, I should mail to tech support or Air Issues, and dont know how to upload.

edit: Find it, the game "reset" the target if you sweep in your own airfield hex. I bad habit, I admit.

BTW, Mistmatz, even if I'm new to this game (7months) I think I could contribute to the AE Wiki, or more poeple should even if the info is in the manual, we should get all formula there, ie loading capacity, rearming, port size, etc,etc... something fast and easy.

Nathan

Your unit is doing 70% CAP and 30% rest. That is total of 100% of planes reserved, so none are left to preform the sweep. Also, you are based in Port Moresby, so it is your own base. You can only preform sweeps on enemy bases.

And enemy units, IIRC.

I can be wrong but:

12 fighters total

70% Cap = 8 planes (with 1/3 rule to scramble)

remains 4 planes

30% of 4 = 1 on rest (will scramble)

so 3 fighters are on sweep ready to fight now (even if 70% cap and 30% rest)

3 fighters from sweep + X from cap in the air (1/3 rule) = more planes intercepting now than waiting cap to scramble

Am I correct? That why I set the sweep for that hex

Sweep is an offensive mode, meaning they don't do a scramble on that nor they do sweeps over own bases.

Besides, the 30% rest isn't 30% of the remaining fighters after what you have ordered to CAP, but 30% of total of the unit, meaning 4 planes in this case. If you want the extra 3 planes to fly over your own base you have to set them to 90% CAP, 10% rest.

Planes on rest will scramble if the base is attacked. If you have decent radar, it might make sense to have a good percentage on rest.

Mmm, I'm pretty sure you're wrong. Did you ever did some test? Sounds a bit sarcastic but i'm not, trust me. I've read on this a while ago.

Amethyst, erstad and cap_and_gown are right. Not much need to test here.

The planes available are all assigned, nothing is left to perform the primary mission. The only action the 30% on rest will perform is a (late)
emergency scramble in case of an attack. You assigned 100% to secondary "missions" (only put this in quotation marks because rest is not exactly a mission).

Just to explain in more detail:

70% of all ready planes - the exact number depends on the planes ready on mission assignment - are assigned to CAP. Of those a small percentage are in the
air, the rest are on readyness, awaiting either to replace the planes of the airborne CAP or are ready to scramble against incoming AC.
30% are stood down and have a - much lower - chance to also scramble in case the attack is detected early enough.

That leaves 0% of the squadron to perform your primary mission.

That said, you assigned PM as your sweep target, which is your very own base at range 0. This is the reason why it resets to "commanders discretion" but you found out already I see. [;)]
