Saving good pilots from Luzon invaision

Post by javnavy »

I've only had this game for two months, still learning so many things. I'm playing as Allied against AI, it's Dec 28th 1941. The Jap invasion of Luzon is just about to take Clark Field & Manila. Is there any way to pull the good fighter pilots out of Luzon? I've got some that are double aces & I'd hate to lose them to sit in POW Camps.

I tried to disband the airgroup, but they just combined with another squadron.

Thanks for any advice

If I recall, I just withdrew all of the fighter squadrons once they were low on planes. Most, if not all of the fighter pilots eventually showed up in the veteran reserve pool

Click on "pilots" in the air group screen.

Right click on pilots to put them in "group reserve" (or sometimes they get sent home for 180 days.  I don't know what or how the two differences come up).

Go to a different squadron, say, one on the West Coast of USA.  Click on the "get veteran" pilot replacement option... select the pilot.  Wait a few days.  Go into the West Coast squadron, right click on the pilot to "make active".

Train him up to 70.  Move him to front line duty.

Cry as he gets shot down and killed.

Actually, you just need to read the info screen when you hold the mouse pointer over each pilot on the pilot screen. You can put them into group reserve in effect making them inactive within the group or rotate them within the group for 180 days. If you put them into general reserve after a few days you can draw them from the pilot pool to any group on the map. Of course the further you are away from your home base to longer it will take to get to the base where your group is located. This would be after you make them inactive right clicking a second time gets them into the General reserve or TRACOM if their experience level is above 80! After a few days in TRACOM if you leave them there they start training your green pilots for next months replacements to come in pilots. There is an unknown formula for TRACOM but basically the more you have in TRACOM the faster your pilots get trained off map.
