I wanted something more realistic like a strategy+simulation compare to Pacific Storm Allies, me and others have modded that game for along time, but few things we couldnt. This look ok, but im tired of playing old game compare to this and dont think its worth 50bucks unless you got money to burn. Believe WitP:AE would be your best bet instead of this, unless you want something simple.

In your opinion, what what exactly should be done in different way in Storm over the Pacific to make you happy and not to make the game a clone of WitP?

I think this game is a decent distraction from WITP.

I play all three games (WITP, PacWar, and SOP) and all have their advantages:

WITP - Detailed historical simulation (but I can't seem to play the grand campaign continuously as there's too much to do)
PacWar - WITP lite? Decisions are high-level and very little tactical options. I like the scale but it's an old software and resolving a turn takes 30 minutes in Dosbox.
SOP - Same scale as PacWar (Divisions and Corps) but more involved, tactical options, supply management and production.  But game mechanics are quite "gamey".

Oh a realism mod is on the way. Just look at the mods section entitled "Rising Sun". [:D]

Well there are so many games with the samn 2D icons that move around on hex map, try something more creative. Of course it require skills of using 3D environments and more pc hardwares. Something that attract players and look interesting. WitP look cheap too, but lack of graphics and leader's portaits. Least they put alot of work on the database and making it realistic as possible. I like WitP:AE, but part of me doesnt due to graphics and leader pics are missing.

If this turn based game, can pause in between combat and watch the battle take place. You dont control the units, the leader that asign to will do it depend on his skills. So can watch what going on, land, sea and air actions in 3D. Since you guys have already made some models on that video and units on the map, shouldnt be that hard to make it. Of course this will take longer to play it out, unless you playing with a friend that is in a hurry.

So it looks like you are judging the book by the cover.
Good that we are releasing the demo next week, so you might have a chance to see is your opinion anyway equal to the truth.

Looking forward to check out the demo :) The reason i mention alittle different scale on WWII Pacific Games, wanted something that has some taste to it. Like watching a movie 'Harm Way" that show epic battle, PS wasnt so bad but lack of realism though and incorrect datas, took me awhile to fix it, but still few things we cant fix.

I guess there are still people who looks for graphics for games of this scale.
Most people are content with hex and counters.

Wow, can't figure out where my old ID went but...

I don't have WITP:AE because I could never play the grand campaign (have the older WITP). I love the game but never was able to get a process down that allowed me to get a handle on things. Of anyone has pointers about mgmt of that, I'll check it out.

The only area in SotP I would like see changes is the naval system. I don't mind it now and I'm learning the whole system, but I would have really liked to see more detailed operational options, and hexes instead of zones. I know that's a major system change and don't expect hexes, but I would like to see air group control on the carriers (fighters vs torpedo vs dive bombers, etc). Maybe its there abstracted (interceptions, attack options, etc...although I can't figure out yet how a CA and BB group can intercept my air attack).

I only say this because of the combat focus in the pacific: naval operations.

I am happy with this purchase, the graphics and the system to date. Very playable, enjoyable and gets me my PacWar fix that WITP couldn't do (but man I still love the smaller scenarios because I can handle them).

IMNSHO any increased emphasis on 3D graphics would be a waste of resources. They convey no extra information and are only eye-candy.
When they appear unbidden for the first time, I for one, turn them OFF. Turned off the movies in Panzer General, too.
3D graphics have their place in tactical infantry battles (either FPS or ancients, like the Total War series) but not in a top-level game like either SotP or WWII:ToW.

There.
That's an opinion - deal with it!

Not true, its how it laid out. I dont mean something like Hearts of Iron III that have 3D models instead of counters. When the battle occur, bring the combat phase up the next window. Its almost like watching a movie, you dont control these units though. Who ever been assign to this group will have to carry them out (better or worst). This will bring the ideas what warfare is like and the taste what destruction can do. Ever wanna see what heavy strategic bombers can do a town or city? Most ppls have no clues. its almost like a god view but watching and panning around the battlefields. Just have to use your imagations, i have been designing games for along time but never get thru programing and no proof of skills. Just natural talents, i have modded so many games range from roleplaying to WWII strategy games in the last 20yrs.

And i wont deal with it, i make it more realistic :)

Sound's like WITP's combat animations... but only in cinematic 3D.
But I usually skip those and read the combat report to save time.

Well you wont make it happen in 3D in this game or WitP:AE, have to start a new scratch, almost like starting all over again. That takes alot of work. Almost like Battlestation:Pacific, very good high quailty ships and animations, but the way they have it setup more like an action video game lol. I remember messing with it, and this USN Fletcher Class DD had over 50 torps lol.

After viewing some screenshots, noticed only lasted 339 turns in full/grand campaign, what that 1 turn each week? It should be each day. Also saw sea battle of CA Pensacola dueling BB Ise and Fuso, Ise and Fuso look like Yamato Class BB lol, that is not right.

The battleship image is just a general icon used for all japanese battleships, there is one for cruisers, etc.. Do you really want to play WW2 day by day, if so you are on the wrong forum. [:)]

As was said before, there is a general image for all units of the same type.

Also you can change settings and make each day for lasting ten turns (or 24 if you would like to simulate hour by hour), however then you should make new map to change the scale, which is also possible.

Hmm i wait til the demo comes out and check out the codes and see, i might manage to make alittle better. Just have to wait and see. So far look interesting, just need some adjustments to it.
