How to add a pic into the combat report screen?

Post by Frido1207 »

I feel the combat report screen is a bit dry.
So i thought if it would be possible to add a picture to that report screen, to see at the first glance, if it is a air combat, or a land battle etc. Pls see example below:

If it is possible , how to do so, that i can add a appropriate picture to the combat, which is resolved, e.g a land combat pic for land battles etc.

Also any artistic advices are highly appreciated.

thx in advance

For the moment you would need a program like Adobe Photoshop that has levels so you can superimpose images with transparency etc..

Hmmm... Paint Shop Pro (if anybody still uses that! I'm using V7 but V5 & 6 also supported layers) also supports the creation of LAYERS. The .png (portable network graphics) image format supports transparency. I'm not going to make a list of ALL the graphics formats which do, but .png is one of the most common ones.

I'd like to see examples of WIP.

IMO GIMP is a very good solution. The best  free software raster graphics editor.

GIMP rocks, (and yes everyone I know chuckles at the name).

Just to get things straight (at least for me that is):
i was looking for a solution like in the fleet management screen, where, as you know, always is a pic from a CA; BB,etc.
I found an entry in the GUI csv. (line 558) mentioning "fleets image". But I don´t know to which folder this was referring, as i cannot find the background pics for the fleet management screen. So am i guessing right, that this mentioned solution doesn´t work?
thx for your patience with me.

Thx DT. Think i found those pics.
But please can you give me some more advices?
Can i just add some pics into that folder that you mentioned & add a "combat image" line in the csv. file?
But how to name those pics, so that the game engine is able to find them, also again which pic to choose.
Many dumb questions i know, buit i´m new to this kind of stuff & generally a IT illeterate.

Now you are not able to add those pictures.
First we have to design how it suppose to work, and then we have to implement those.
So if you have any suggestions, please post them.
