Can't edit scenarios

Okay, feeling pretty silly here, but I'm stuck.

I've been trying to follow the tutorials on scenario and unit creation, but can't actually edit anything unless I directly load a .ptmaster file. Opening any scenario in the editor, even one just generated randomly as suggested in the unit creation tutorial, most of the buttons used to change values simply do not appear, so I can't actually change anything. I've even tried changing the extension of a scenario I created to .ptmaster, but still can't change anything once it's saved. What am I missing?

hi,

its a child lock.

disable the masterfile by click on the masterfile button in 'general settings' and then pressing cancel in the popup.
