Our first battle on the second to last op of Der Ost Front. We are probably going to move onto WAR after we finish this GC.

This map was pretty interesting.

The red X's represent an LMG and rifle squad that were the first line of defense that were eventually overrun by Damp's forces. I knew I couldn't hold the bridge without suffering heavy losses so I stationed my forces in the woods beyond it.

Once I saw his infantry rushing the bridge I waited until my LMG and rifle squads opened up in ambush mode and then began dropping in mortars. I've got 2 82mm and 1 120mm unit in my BG. After several minutes those two squads gave way.

The bunker's aperture faces north so I hoped to maybe survive long enough to catch a tank in the rear. I was sorely mistaken. I had a ISU122 stationed near the bunker facing into the clearing to the south (lower blue line). Damp brought a heavy tank destroyer into the clearing and after it rounded the corner it was destroyed by my ISU122.
On the road, Damp used a light flame tank. He managed to destroy the rifle squad and help pin the command group that occupied the bunker with a 76mm AT gun (red dot and green line).

I had a T-34/85 near the road to the north (top blue line)of the bunker and I inched it into the road to kill the flame tank. The road and general area was filled with smoke however my T-34 got a lucky round in.

As time expired Damp rushed in several squads to the bunker and killed the command team and 76mm AT gun.

It was a great match.

Second battle on this map.

Damp had fortified the bunker with a gun and troops. I'd stationed a 152mm gun looking down the road with a LOS on the bunker. Once I knew he had men inside I proceeded to shell the entire structure.

The thick woods allowed Damp to move troops to the southern VL however when he moved north I had a trap ready for him. I'd stationed 4 infantry teams (2 rifle, 1 command and 1 engineer) in a staggered line around the northern VL. When his troops ran into the end of the line I rolled the rest down and encircled his teams. They were either destroyed or taken prisoner.

Another game that went the full 20 minutes.

Action shot from the encirclement...note the large number of mortar rounds by the bunker from both of us. It was a hotly contested zone. You can see the wreck of the heavy tank destroyer just south of the bunker.

A pic from the first battle...Dundradals post Number 142.
My flame tank had just bit the dust.

Looking at the mini map... Top NorthWest: Mortar teams.
North water edge 1 8.8cm Pak....below that my Pz V-G heading for the bridge.
SouthWest the 7.5cm IG...with a good LOS into the bunker.

We forgot to grab images from our last 2 battles on that forest map...but I remembered to grab a few from our next map...although I also screwed up and copied over a great action shot! Ahhh well.

Damp started in the two woods at the edge of the map. I was really concerned which area he would use for his jumping off point. My southern flank was basically non-existent because I figured he would force his way out of the northwest into town...well he had a few troops go to the south and I was afraid he was going to wrap up my forces. I managed to hold him...but it was costly.

Damp in the last few battles has had great luck with AT teams. He's killed at least 3 IS-2s and an IS-2 along with 2-3 ISU122s and ISU152s.

He's gotten a lot better since our first battles. Once we finish with this GC we are moving over to WAR...we might return to COI in the future though. I'd love to do some of the other mods.

On the second day I managed to slow Damp's advance and inflict some casualties on his forces. He didn't take much ground, however he has a good hold on the farm in the south and the northern end of town.

This map is not going well for me. I keep losing heavy tanks.

Battle Results...

I did manage to kill a King Tiger on this day as well. That was the great action shot I copied over by accident.

An action shot from the next day's battle on the map. I made some markings where his tank destroyer had picked off my T-34/85 and ISU122.

You can see my BG is hurting pretty badly. The next few days fighting would be very hard.

The battle map...you can see Damp found the weak point in my line to the south and had started to move a few infantry squads into my rear. I had a single medium MG team guarding the southern dirt road running southwest to northeast. He managed to move by them through the woods. I tried to turn them around to at least slow down his progress but they got through.

After this battle I had to withdraw.

These shots actually come from the 2nd day of battle on this map. I forgot to grab some from the first...

You can see the wreck of an IS2 in the woods northeast of my 100mm AT gun. On the first day on this map the fight was really by AT and armor across that small field. Damp kicked my ass....an IS2, ISU152 and 100mm AT gun all died the first day.

On this day I've positioned my units a bit differently. I figured Damp would try to fight across the field again so I positioned my AT and T-34 to the south to hit him in flank when he emerged from the tree line.

In the north around my infantry teams I marked out a wreck from the first day. It was a tank destroyer that I managed to catch with infantry positioned in the same trenches. I marked out a tank destroyer in the woods as well.

To the south of the road I've marked out a King Tiger and the T-34/85 it killed as I brought it out to engage it.

9 minutes later...

A few things...

In the north you can see a destroyed Ferdinand. I managed to catch it in the rear with my 100mm AT gun in the woods that has since been killed.

You can see that the tank destroyer has seriously damaged my infantry squads in the area. There are also several of his infantry squads in woods nearby but they aren't readily apparent.

In the south the King Tiger sits burning from a combo of infantry attacks and the T-34/85 that I moved down from the tree line.

Here's the map for the next battle. I've put it up first because of the action shots I have. They become easier to understand.
