Below is a map of current dispositions on Japan, prior to the final assault on Kagoshima.
My first assaults failed, so I have brought in substantial reinforcements. I will reinforce
the corps at Oita(sp). The plan is to move up both coast roads and cut off the island
from Japan "proper". I'm still holding my paratroops in reserve.

Map of Kyushu. Forces are moving along both coastal roads and will meet at the top
of the island and cut it off from resuppy and reinforcement.
Ground forces now number 6 full corps plus substantial support elements.
Kanoya is developing nicely as a base as will Kagoshima and Oita.
Main prob is lack of room to utilize broad front tactics. Jap. air opposition now light.
Tokyo has been pretty much burned down.

So to win you need 1.8x so you need about 45,000 more points in 6 months....

Andy,
Most of my A2A losses are B29s from raids on Japan.I initially started with night raids
and switched to day raids(the purist in me), at an altitude of 15k. I underestimated the
attrition. Have now switched to an altitude of 20K. Losses seem more sustainable at that level.
I also am using a min bombardment range of 15 for night bombardment tfs. The results
are much better than leaving the range at zero. noted that the BBs at that setting tend
to engage the fortresses, if any, and the cruisers go after the ground units. Have not tried
any daylight bombardments yet.
Jap. subs are a pest and are still lingering at Kagoshima. I have brought in an ASW force
to try and reduce that threat.
As far as the vps are concerned, I think Kyushu will fall before the game ends. if I can
get into the main island, I can unleash my armor heavy corps. I have substantial forces
waiting at Manila, Guam and PH for an exploitation possibility. Don't know if I'll
have enough time.
Also, Austaralian and NZ forces are just about ready to hit Hong Kong, which should garner
addnl vps, and then move to Canton.
I continue to be impressed with the forces the Allies had available. The organizational
skills required for them to muster and engage forces of this magnitude is truly incredible.
All that was done w/o cell phones and laptops. Imagine that.

Let me clarify the min bombardment range statement I made above. At a setting of
15, the BBs tend to engage the fortresses and the cruisers the ground units. My statement
above might have been confusing.

Kyushu: Now under US control. Kumamoto, Kurume, Fukuoka, and Nagasaki/Sasebo
captured. Remnants of garrison in Fukuoka now being reduced.

Land casualties:
Kumamoto:
Japan-51,442
US- 21,087

Kurume:
Japan-8,108
US-1,440

Nagasaki/Sasebo:
Japan-41,478
US-12,379

Fukuoka:
Japan-37,929
US-18,115

This is not the whole story. After clearing Oita, I moved forces up the road to block
reinforcements coming in from Shimonoseki. A series of large battles were fought
for control of the cross-road, with casualties in the 5 figs for ea. side. After taking
the cross-road, I left an inf rgt there as a screen and moved the other forces on to
Fukuoka. The ai saw the inf rgt and sent forces from Shimonoseki, in the form of
2 inf bdes and an inf div. They blew thru the rgt which retreated into Oita, where I
only had another inf rgt and support troops. The Jap. inf div attacked but was beaten off.
Thankfully, I had dispatched V Amphip Corps to Oita earlier and they landed in combat
mode. I counter-attacked as they disembarked. They pushed the enemy back and are now on the march to Shimonoseki. All forces will head there.
In a silly move, I sent 4 CVs to raid the port at Tokyo. Did substantial dmg but lost
3 of the 4 and the last one limped into Iwo for reapirs. all sunk by kamiz. Below is a map
of the current situation on Kyushu.

Situation in Japan.
Forces will now proceed along the north and south roads. A force will split off from
the northern road and capture, I hope, Okiyama. The major force will proceed down the
road to Osaka/Kyoto, there to be joined by the forces coming down the southern road.
These forces will invest Osaka/Kyoto and capture it. Time permitting, they will then drive on Tokyo.
Pls open the attachment to view map. Messed up. Sorry.
