Revealing secrets of Naval Battles

Post by doomtrader »

Probably there are some of you who are not familiar with new, heavy upgraded (if compared with ToW) naval battles system.

This tutorial video presents possibilities of commanding Navy during the battle:

Storm over the Pacific Tutorial The Naval Battle

I'm wondering how do you like it in compare with ToW, and other games.

Informative enough but what is the mechanism that allows the first line of groups to attack the enemy second line, usually carriers. (breakthrough the screen)

Isn't it the usual fleet arrangement to have transports, oilers, etc also screened by the "first" line and reside in the second line? How do you accomplish that?

In the case of a CV vs CV battle in which aircraft only participate how are the screening vessels' (1st line, second line??) anti-air fires applied?

Well done video.

Concerning carrier battles, I think there should be a high probability that ONLY carriers would be engaged, as one of more of the forces would discover the enemy far out of range of surface ships.

This happens in the regular turn and not in the detailed naval battle phase.
You see (or get to recon) an emeny naval unit in the sea zone (or even adjacent sea zone)...
Then order an Air Strike. This one simulates the carrier battle that you're after.

Good points. I'm thinking however, that if the chance of a surface battle is 30%, that chance ought to be greatly reduced if either side has a carrier present.

Thats a valid argument. Commanders will prefer to use air power than engage in direct combat when the assets are available. Maybe the % can be tweaked when carriers are present. Of course subs are mor aggressive when it comes to hunting carriers.
