Rob: Yeah, it hasn't been "steamroller" game. That is down to Dave abilities in this game... and yes no way I'am going throw in the towel! [:D]

From now I steadily start to increase the "heat"... we are still +2 years from from the finish so no need to start doing suicidal things.

I thought you would be up and running with GC game already?

Sumartra / Sabang is possibility. There are two problems... RN CV's are in the pacific (I have lack of operational carriers due to early losses) and the lba pools for RAF aren't looking good. Neither in terms of pilots nor planes.

I have shipped some extra US ones into SouthEast asia since I do have more than plenty of them.

As always... appreciated.

crsutton: Correct. That is the idea. We knock out those +90 oil points and Burma will be wasteland after that.

Next turn should show how we are progressing. I have 400-500 aircraft participating in this assault againts Magwe.

If we get lucky who knows what is left after these bombing raids.

...in the end we knocked out 12 Oil resource points with these raids.

This actually marked the combat debut for Mustang and P40N fighters. Both of them left a lot to be desired for.

The sweep missions were set on 20 000 feet and escort /bombers flew in 15 000 feet. Our pilot experiece for fighters were between 45-75 air skills.

Now the show will go on... allthough I will rest my crews next turn.

Good to see you're still putting up the good fight. Sabang sounds like a good gambit. If you make progress there and then Singapore, he'll have to retreat from Burma (especially if you've obliterated his Magwe oil). I won't offer too much advice, but if your 4Es are suppressing airfields nicely, then you can do a lot of hopping rather than invading his strongholds. The first step would be to clear out the Solomons as you are doing and then New Guinea, then the DEI from the east. If you manage to make inroads on the DEI from the west as well, then all the better. Whatever you do, good luck!

Cheers,

It'll be interesting to see if this goes to 1946. [8D]

And severe storms. Also heavy fighter opposition will have an effect on bombing accruacy. You might hit the airfield for a raid or two with heavies to beat down the fighters, but the oil is the target.

Commander Cody: Welcome. Yeah, no intentions of surrendering. Actually I'am moving more airpower to the frontlines.

Sabang does look intresting and there few other bases in Sumatra that are tempting. However I need reorganize my airforce once we get the objective done at Magwe.

The pilot experience is too low to my liking due to heavy airwar at Burma.

Solomons are definately on the list. You will see that Dave has substantial forces in place there. The first recon missions reveal this already.

Sardaukar:
I can guarantee that we shall see 1946 in this one. No matter what happens we will grind into bitter end.

bklooste:
Yeah, Thunderstorms. Actually seems that 9 times out of 10 it is Thunderstorms. Sometimes you just hate the advanced weather model.

crsutton:
Definately heavy CAP! I know has quite a few elite pilots at Burma. (exp. 80-90's).

Last turn saw 15 000 feet heavy bombing run againts the oilfields at Magwe. The losses were high but next turn we will make another run for them,

There were also few smaller raids but they failed to anything worth of mentioning.

Last round we went in at 15 000 feet and knocked some oilfields out.

Next turn another round is ordered and we will fly at 10 000 feet.

I know substantial losses are to be expected BUT I think that this just needs to be done now and lets worry about else later.

If everything goes as planned we should knock 20-30 oilfields units again and thus it would leave him with something 30 operational ones.

That is enough and the business at Magwe oilfield can be concluded.

The whole above thing shows that fighters in escort missions don't do much in terms of protecting and shooting down enemy aircraft. Maybe something worth a look in future patches.

Keeping that in mind however I have opted to fly at 10 000 feet next turn with only escort missions. I rather have couple of large strikes than uncoordinated ones which maybe end up even worse.

Last turn we lost around +100 planes and enemy losses were 40-50 planes.

Southern Pacific (september 27th - 30th 1943)

Allied forces capture Luganville on september 27th 1943.

Japanese launch couple of strikes againts our shipping at Luganville. The allied CAP shoot down some Zero fighters and enemy bombers.'

I'am not actually sure whether these enemy fighters were from lba or carrer based. I guess we shall see next turn what is he up to.

Considering he lost CL Kitakima and DD Akebono south of Tulagi... well I see no point of them being here "alone". Why would he sacrifice these ships for nothing. So, my money is that KB is not far off here.

I started to flew recon missions. The map below shows what was revealed.

Oil fields can wait a week or too .. get your bomers to recover and thin his air with some sweeps for a few turns then send your bombers in when his pilots all have fatigue..

bklooste: I did conduct an operational raids last turn. Now it is time regroup a bit.

The main problem with sweeping missions are that I have far too few skilled pilots in that category.

This is mainly due to the fact that I did not train each squadron individually when the game started. In personal reference I liked the training in classic witp better.

Burma (september 30th - october 1st 1943)

The allied airforce visited Magwe this turn too. We knocked out more of his oilfields at Burma.

The recon flights show just 40 operational fields at Magwe. This is good enough for the rest and regroup for a bit. I guess we achieved our goals but this airwar at Burma has been costly and bloody.

In past two days we reduced around 35-40 oilfields which is still fair enough. Sometimes you must take losses in order to gain the objectives.

Here is round up for last turns action at Burma...

South Pacific (september 30th - october 1st 1943)

In the last update we made assumption that the sinking of CL Kitakami and DD Akebono would mean that KB is lurking nearby.

Well as it stands this is correct. The enemy carriers were spotted south of Tulagi in the end of last turn.

Instead of running like chicken I have ordered my carriers further into north and intercept these raiders. If Dave does not retreat well we will have one hell of an carrier clash in our hands.

The last pic will show the ordered allied route towards KB.

I know this is risky business but sometimes we must roll the dice. I know he can fly in 80-90 fighters and 50 bombers from Tulagi. In order to deal with this I have moved 60 allied fighters into Luganville and set them 100% LRCAP over the carriers.

Now lets keep fingers crossed that this time around we will prevail!

Oh and the last turn was not without action either. Dave sent some fighters and bombers in assaulting missions againts our carrier TF's.

This did not turn out too good for him...

I have triple checked all the squadrons. The assault distance is set maxium of 7 hexes for the torpedo bombers, dive bombers and escorts.

The torpedo planes will go in at 7000 feet while dive bombers will fly at 11 000 feet. Escorts and CAP do vary a bit.

As said unless he moves north than......

The air losses in your attacks in Burma are amazing.  Those veterans of his are doing a great job.  On the other hand, your 300+ Hellkitties are doing a great job protecting everything that is around them!  Nice assembly of firepower near Espirito Santo.  I've got a good feeling about that operation.
Sometimes things said in Nitwit sound very different in English.

crsutton: Thanks. The wishes could have gone better.

offenseman: Those pilots have shot downn vast number of aircraft. As for the operation... well did fight allthough things did not go as ordered.

Battle of Coral Sea (october 1st - 2nd 1943)

This will just an copy paste report from the carrier clash we had. I don't have the turn file yet and heading to work.

It did not go as planned though. Far from it since despite specific orders the carriers reacted. I know the leaders can do this and well they surely did.

I will get the turn file back tomorrow most likely.

Dave stated that he lost +200 aircraft in this battle. No mentioning whether or not he actually lost any ships.

I will update the allied carrier situation once the turn file comes in. Overall I'am not too pleased how things played out.

Well, unless FOW radicallly distorted the observed results of Allied attacks, Junyo and Unyo are likely gone.

I think you really decimated his carrier pilots....but I bet he has trained replacements. Allied damage control is in your favour, since hits seemed to be quite even.

As often the key is the second day. If you both get out of it as it is, he loses a couple of CVEs and probably one CV, maybe one more with Jap damage control. You lose a bunch of CVEs, probably one CV and have a few other CVs/CVLs damaged... That would not be a defeat, rather a bloody draw from a tactical point of view and strategically pretty even : you hurt his fleet somewhat, something he cannot recuperate from while you get more and more boats, but he slowed you down a bit.
