And another newbie...

Post by CatLord »

Which is myself, a short introduction:

~30 years old, and soon be father. :)
I am a Frenchie living in London.

I am a SPWaW player, but also a EU2 and Nainwak (Francophone online game) fan.

I am currently involved in a Campaign with the British (quite tough in the Desert against Germans in 41/42: I can't pierce Panzer IIIj armor easily ! ), and in a PBEM game.

For this latest I got a game corruption problem that I reported in the techie forum, if anyone can help.

Thanks,

Cat

I read your post in the Tech forum, very odd. First by letting me say welcome aboard. Check to see if there are any specific updates to the laptop such as BIOS. Not too long ago a gamer was having a similar problem when he updated his laptop BIOS and all his problems went away. There was something about IRQ steering in his BIOS that received a drastic update amoung other things. Also when running SPWAW try to do it with minimum program running in the background, because of it's old code SPWAW use 100% CPU resources which can prove to be unstable when fighting with other programs most importantly would be to disable antivirus. Ensure your drivers for both video and audio are the most updated. XP home already installs DirectX 8.1a so there is no reason to even to check for updates to it. Try running the game directly from the :\MatrixGames\Steel Panthers World at War\mech.exe file this will bypass the autorun menu which is a memory hog. Look in this folder and delete the following files(if they exist):\MatrixGames\Steel Panthers World at War\save delete steel.prf and holder.txt The game will recreate the steel.prf file once the game is restarted and you alter anything in the preference screen and the other file is not required. Also from what I read your are playing from a version 5.x patched up to ver 7.1, this also might be the problem as the sounds files in versions prior to a full install of 5.3 were very suspect to cause your types of problems causing them to be redone and saved in a more universal audio frequency format that was widely accepted amoung all sound cards. Beginning with the full version of 5.3 the newer sounds were included as part of the installation but full install of versions 5.3-7.0 aren't available on the web, they were only included on the MegaCampaign CD's that Matrix produced. I understand your downloading 7.1 complete but if your interested here is the link to get the updated stereo sounds SPWAW updated stereo sounds the file is still about 200mb in size but much less than the 460mb+ for a full 7.1 download. It a self installing program that will automatically overwrite and update all your sound files to the newer format as I'm pretty sure one of these fixes will help your situation. Good luck and keep me informed.

We have found a straightforward but weird solution to our problem. See tech forum.

If you like fighting stories - Sort of like the American Sgt Rock Commic Books go read my after action reports in the Mega-Campaign Sub forum.
