start-up annoyance

Post by Gommer »

Every time I start the game Windows asks me (with a pop-up panel) if I should allow it, even when the game's set to run as Admin, and regardless of how many times I tell it 'yes I know this program'. How do I get this to stop?

Can I set up the game to start w/o that auto-updater thingy?

The windows issue should be solved if you go into your user accounts and turn off windows UAC.

The autoupdater can be skipped by using the start menu DW quickstart icon instead of the normal game menu.

The UAC, especially in windows 7 is a bit odd, for example, .bat files do not work properly unless you have it turned completely off.  I disabled it for this reason, I needed to use a .bat file, something to do with another game, and when I did, Distant Worlds no longer asks me at startup, it justs starts normally. [:)]

It may seem odd and annoying but I really would advise you keep it on because I have been saved twice now from malicious software trying to piggy back on to my system because of it.

I use the following that goees direct to the DistantWorlds.exe file instead of autoload or whatever the other is.. It bypasses the annoying screen and goes right to loading the game.

"C:\Matrix Games\Distant Worlds\DistantWorlds.exe"
