A request, por favor!!!!

Post by RevRick »

Folks, there is one thing that has bothered me ever since I downloaded AE. That is the load screen, with the caption "Setting Sail." Somehow, since I never heard that said when the ship was beginning to move out of port, it is like one of those little pebbles that gets under your foot in your shoe and will irritate the living Jumpin' Jehoshaphat out of you. At least it is to me. Is it possible that we could find one of our resident artists to replace "Setting Sail" with the term "Under Way!" It's just a small thing. It would even be better if the bosun pipe's attention call could be placed just as the screen comes up. And, if no one else wants it, which must be the case because I haven't seen anyone else writing about it - oh well. I can live with what is there at present, or change it to one of TL's good screens...

The good news is that is just part of a graphics file that can easily be changed.  Just replace OpenLoadScreen_1024.bmp with some other art work and irritation be gone.

Here's your bosun pipe. Backup your 1015.SFX in your SOUNDS folder in case you want it back someday. Put this one in its place. This is a historic recording of one during WWII.

I'm not sure if this is going to work. I found the 'oulde' modified sound we used to use for Uncommon Valor - the General Quarters Alarm. I am going to try to post this as an attachment. I hope it works. I did test it out on one of my WitP:AE installations, and it worked. You will have to change the .wav to a .sfx to make it work.

Have fun..

something quick. it doesn't exactly say to me "under way" since it looks like a mail drop or some such is in progress but different nonetheless.

Great picture. She been ridden hard and put away wet. The BMs have been at battlestations a lot.

Absolutely Love the Picture... That old lady has been underway for a long time.... as BW58 said. The deck gang, and everyone else will be busy than one armed paper hangers when she stands down for a while. Chipping hammers and red lead..

Great find. TKSMUCH...

This site

"Welcome to Spooky's UV & WITP Fansite"

http://mathubert.free.fr/main_content.htm

is still up, and has many, many load screens, especially in the 2005 and 2006 sections. It also has a number of .sfx sound effects for those looking for some variety. I used a lot of the sounds to spice up WITP. I think they will work in AE.

There's a good book out there called _Tales of a Tin Can_ which is first person accounts about the USS Dale. The author got some of the background history wrong, but he interviewed quite a few of the sailors still alive as of 2005.

The Dale had been involved in the Aleutians campaign and keeping up on the exterior maintenance took second place to survival, so by the end of the campaign, she was pretty rusty. They were transferred to Pearl Harbor and tied up next to a brand new DD straight from the States. The sailors of the new DD were looking down on the old rust bucket, but the Dale had been through over a year of combat ops with little maintenance and the new DD hadn't seen any action.
