Feels good so far

Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem is a highly enhanced new release of Close Combat, using the latest Close Combat engine with many additional improvements. Its design is based on the critically acclaimed Close Combat – A Bridge Too Far, originally developed by Atomic Games, as well as the more recent Close Combat: The Longest Day. This is the most ambitious and most improved of the new Close Combat releases, but along with all the enhancements it retains the same addicting tactical action found in the original titles! Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem comes with expanded force pools, reserve & static battlegroups, a troop point buying system, ferry and assault crossings, destructible bridges, static forces and much more! Also included in this rebuild are 60+ battles, operations and campaigns including a new enhanced Grand Campaign!

Feels good so far

Post by Rosseau »

Having played all the new CCs, I can say that this one somehow "feels" like it's got greater fidelity. And the maps look super. But I've only been at it a few hours. I hesitated at first, but found that all the nice touches are worth the price tag.

Modding question: Where do I go to change the point value of a formation? I think this point value thing is something new in LSA? For example, I give a squad a few extra guys in the Teams file and see the value of that squad has gone up automatically. No more cheating?

Thanks

Well, I just played Arnhem, and it brings back great memories.  My one complaint with the series after Atomic's Close Combat 2 was that it seemed too easy.  Well, in my opinion the glory has returned to the series!
The maps are beautiful, and the ai has actually impressed me.

In Matrix's close combat Battles of the Bulge I never lost a battle that I had a reasonable chance of winning.  It just wasn't a challenge.  (I have not played TLD, and I hear the ai is better in that game, and I know that patches have been realeased for the Bulge, so it may be better)  In this game, playing as the Germans (I'm at veteran difficulty, and the allied A.I. is set to recruit), there were 3 battles where I felt that I had good ground, and enough forces to hold the position, and in all 3 I was defeated, or pushed back.  Time and time again I have been surprise by the direction of an AI assault.  It actually sent in infantry to clear my anti tank positions who were waiting for tanks to come rolling down the road.  They never did.  I saw one tank, and it was in cover, and the other tanks just pounded the buildings where I had set up a killing zone.  I got crushed.   I truly feel like a panicked German commander wishing that just once I had the power to launch at airborne assault like this.

The strategic map so far seems like a work of genius.  I'm currently playing the second turn of the grand campaign, and at least now I have a few apcs and some grenadiers to move to the trouble spots.  I can't wait until I get the S.S. pazner divisions.  I truly feel like a kid, this is one fun game.  Then I can't wait to play as the Allies and see if I can't capture that bridge too far!

Right now I don't see how Matrix could improve this game.  Knock on wood, but so far I haven't seen any problems, but you know that Matrix will improve this even more.  Have I mentioned how great the maps look.  Its like playing on a diorama at some war gaming convention.

Sorry about the rambling, but after playing last night and this morning I have to give Matrix credit, this is a rebirth of a classic. [/align]

That's a CC III/ COI feature!

So the new game is a blend of II, III and tLD?
