Problems with attaching units

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Problems with attaching units

Post by LuckyJim1010 »

Hi all,

Playing the tutorial scenario as the Allies.

I attach the B Battery 489 AA Battery to the 318 HQ to give some needed firepower.

I do this but cntrl clicking the 2 units. Then I plan an assault through Steinebruck.

Trouble is when the AI works out the Unit Tasks ALL the units just plot a Move Task to about 400M east of Steinbruck. No assualt seems be to tasked. I checked the 318 HQ and it shows the assualt task, hust everyone seems to be ignoring it.

If I plan the assualt with just the 318 it works fine.

Soon as I add the AA btn it all goes west. Or East in this case.[:)]

Am I doing something wrong ? Or must I keep the specialist units under my control ?

Love the game btw.

Hmmm.  Did you specify an assembly point as part of the assault?

I have noticed that the unit status reflects what they are doing at the time.  If they have to move to get into position to attack, then they will show "move".  Maybe you should let the attack continue to see whether they are actually just moving with no attacks, or moving *to* the attack instead.

For player ordered attacks it determines the FUP ( if none specified ), then conducts a Move mission to the FUP. Once at the FUP it switches over to an attack mission and reorgs at the FUP, then assaults and conducts a final reorg at the objective. SO Templar I would agree with RobearGWJ and just let it run its course. If they reach the FUP and don't reorg and assault, then get back to me.

....I checked the 318 HQ and it shows the assualt task, hust everyone seems to be ignoring it.

The units will actually be given a move order and be told to move to the FUP (form-up point) determined by the HQ (AI) or the player. So, while the HQ may already show the assault task, the subordinated units may still show the move status until they reach the FUP (in order to reorganize at that location and to start the attack).
Just wait, the HQ may just want to arrange a meeting (of all units involved), before it will make the units switch to the actual attack.

It would be desirable to have ALL of the sub-units' orders/plans displayed (in grey) though, without having to select all the units, so that the player can actually see all planned movements (down to the final attack). Selecting the leading HQ of a given formation should reveal that info (say by toggling between order-mode and plan-mode).

I did let the attack play out and all the units do indeed just try and move to this strange FUP 400M east of Steinbruck.

Of course none of them make it as they get chewed up for just moving by the enemy flot piecemeal.

Okay - just had an idea and changed the Assualt objective to south of the river.

The AI worked it out fine and the assault went as planned.

So it looks like there is  a problem if the assualt is across a river.

I can recreate this at will.

However I cannot see this as a big problem otherwise there would be postings about it.

Edited - forgot to say I had ordered a FUP point as part of the attack, about 100 m north of the 318 HQ.

The units do indeed show up as having 'Move' tasks. It looks to me like the AI is just getting a bit confused by the river and is moving the FUP to north of the river.
