Invisible troops

Post by [GD]Vernichter »

In my last battle and in many others i have encountered "invisible troops". It seems that in TLD it is sometimes to hard to get a visual on the enemy. In several battles my soldiers were unable to spot the enemy which was firing on them from the next house (10 to 20 meters away) or even from some bushes 30 meters away! Is this a bug? I don't recall such extreme issues with enemy visibility from any other CC Game.

There was an issue with the muzzle flashes while playing h2h on the client side. This was fixed a patch ago. The client now can see the muzzle flashes and blasts! Another issue exsisted whith vehicles that were down to one man...I'm not sure if this one was fixed though.

I had no problems with muzzleflashes, i could always see them (haven't played H2H yet, my campaign will start today [:D]).
I had just a very very hard time locating some troops in SP. I'll give you an example:

The battle took place on Easy Red in the second turn after my troops had landed. I had four squads (very healthy at first) located in the ditch facing the big upper german bunker. They had just redeloyed there by "moving fast". In front of my squads were bodies of three different german squads, but none was destroyed. There were no trenches, just the regular underground (grass with some little scrubs) distance was 30m at max. The surviving Germans kept raining fire on my men, who btw had a clear LOS to the muzzleflashes, I used every other unit in range to provide suppressive fire, but the germans killed one man after another while my men could only shoot at the flashes but failed to do any damage.
The result: I lost four squads in that ditch and never got a visual on the surviving enemy troops. And my troops were well supported (two heavy mortar teams, two MMGs, and 4-5 squads providing suppression fire).

In the older CC-Games, and the subsequent re-releases I have never witnessed such a failure. Normally, my troops would spot their enemies after some seconds into the firefight, sometimes too late and sometimes they were even wiped out in a matter of seconds (when my opponent had laid a perfect ambush). But the firefight I described went on for some minutes!

TBH, ask a soldier that been in combat how often he have had a clear target? I live in the peaceful and sissy country Sweden so I can't find any, but I'm quiet sure they more often fire at muzzle-flashes and even a general direction (seen the footages from Nam where a US soldier holds his M16 above a high wall and letting loose at full rock-and-roll?) Been playing a  lot of LSA the last days and it's standard practice for me to concentrate several squads + MGs on muzzle-flashes to force out the Jerrys.

Cheers

it´s common to not identify the enemy teams in my h2h game either.
and i don´t like that. as vernichter said, i didn´t see that problem in previous cc´s.
hardest time i had was in st mere eglise, where my 82nd where neraly whiped out by enemys they actually never saw.
even in houses just on the other side of the road (20-30m) they where unable to identify a target. ok, there wouldn´t be a prob if the germans had the same circumstance but the krauts just fired in my (green cover) positions and killed one man after the anther, just like that.
quite disappointing though they had ambush order and should not have exposed themselves. but german fire started immediatly after starting the battle.
