Route for ships

Post by Bernard »

i'm totally frustrated.
i managed to get together a TF which was supposed to repel an imminent landing.
My Tf (jap) is at Midway, my objective is Plamyra, which i fear my opponent will try to retake.
Johnston is already back in US hand.
I had thought my TF would go from Midway to Palmyra and had accordingly put my aircraft in attack airfield towards Johnston, to clear the way.
Result : my planes are getting shot down and i find my TF NORTHEAST of PH. i have to recall it as i fear that it is likely to go through PH and its 1000+ a/c.
by the time it comes back to Midway, Palmyra has fallen...
How are the routes programmed ? How can i have an idea of the path it is going to take ??
i'm totally frustrated.
not of losing Palmyra, but of not having my naval battle.
if anyone has an answer for this logic, please say so !
Ben

Almost none of the sea lanes follow a straight line. The reason for this is because the game is trying to represent a globe on a flat map.

IIRC, going just about anywhere east from Midway will pass you near Hawaii.

I have a strong feeling there is a "fog-of-war" random factor which causes TF's to occasionally lose their way. I've noticed that it gets really bad around the Aleutians, which actually makes sense. Perhaps the game assumes that the TF must take evasive action to avoid a typhoon or a field of icebergs.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

If this is at all helpful, here's a map that includes the convoy routes. It depicts an earlier version of PacWar, but it gives you the idea and should still be generally accurate.
Put my faith in the people
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.
