Does anyone have any pics and/or data regarding Japanese barges?

Post by Apollo11 »

Hi all,

Does anyone have any pics and/or data (size, speed etc.) regarding
Japanese barges?

We have all seen pics and data for almost all other "glorified"
ships but these "lowly" small crafts never got any attention...

Thanks in advance!

Leo,

Taki has an excellent site at http://member.nifty.ne.jp/takixxx/ just follow the vessel link and there's info for all the types of IJA landing craft and for the bigger amphibious ships as well. Well worth a look around the rest of the site as well and he links to other very interesting sites as well. Kudos to Taki.

Cheers,

Angus

P.S. So far I only gave it quick look but I didn't find any 70t and 100t barges there that we have in UV.

Er, yes, that's a good point. The reason is that UV rates the "barges" by the number of troops they could carry. So it's not accurate when you translate it into cargo but neither are many of the other cargo or troop capacities :-) The 70t barges are the ordinary Diahatsu or Mokusai-Daihatsu landing craft and the 100t ones are the Toku-Daihatsus.

One type of ship that doesn't seem to appear in UV, as far as I've noticed, is the Army Type SS-T or Navy Type ES-T tank landing ships. But I haven't the faintest idea if any of these served in the S. Pacific.

That's a neat site! I find it facinating that the site creator also fixed up Japanese tank data for "Steel Panthers".

BTW - Do any Japanese armored vehicles turn up in UV? I haven't gotten far enough along to see any yet.

This is very interesting...

You are saying that numbers for cargo/troop capacity in UV are
not in fact tonnes?

Do you think that this also applies to all cargo/troop carrying ships?
