Question on Purchase Points

Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem is a highly enhanced new release of Close Combat, using the latest Close Combat engine with many additional improvements. Its design is based on the critically acclaimed Close Combat – A Bridge Too Far, originally developed by Atomic Games, as well as the more recent Close Combat: The Longest Day. This is the most ambitious and most improved of the new Close Combat releases, but along with all the enhancements it retains the same addicting tactical action found in the original titles! Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem comes with expanded force pools, reserve & static battlegroups, a troop point buying system, ferry and assault crossings, destructible bridges, static forces and much more! Also included in this rebuild are 60+ battles, operations and campaigns including a new enhanced Grand Campaign!

Question on Purchase Points

Post by GaryChildress »

I just finished with the Grave bridge assault. My BG there isn't going to look very pretty next turn given all the casualties it suffered rushing the bridge. I checked the manual and didn't see an answer to this (maybe I am not looking in the right place). How are purchase points alloted each turn? I'm currently playing "Line". How many purchase points should I expect to receive for the next turn to replenish my BG. Also will any unused purchase points from the prior turn carry over to the next?

Thanks.

A quick look at the not yet available workbook seems to indicate that points reduce over the 10 days but I'm not even sure that is what I'm seeing.  (I guess this would indicate that this aspect of the game is completely untested????)

I have a screenshot record of purchase points on my battlegroups so I guess I'll find out next turn the answer to this. [:)]

Hi, from the manual, section 17.6:

"A Battle Group will recover about 20% of its maximum unit purchase points every turn, though
a low cohesion will reduce the number of points regained. Successfully resting a Battle Group
will increase the number of points returned, in addition to restoring Battle Group cohesion."
"If you want peace, prepare for war."

From the tecchy... we were told but forgot  :)

The BG base points are calculated internally by the code based on several factors -- how big the Force Pool is, how expensive the teams in the FP are, whether the BG just rested or not, and the BG cohesion.

The net result is that you should be able to fill out your BG slots with 'average' teams for that BG if it is at full strength, with some points left over (left over points depend primarily on how deep your FP is).

A BG then gets a 'refill' of points at the start of each turn which is 'base points' divided by the number of turns per day, modified for current cohesion, FP state, and whether the BG is resting or not.

The result is that 'bigger' BGs (those with large force pools) get more points to spend.  BGs with more expensive teams in their FP also get somewhat more points to spend, so that they can field those teams without being limited to only having one of them.  However the dynamic calculations handles several situations that a hard coded data set can predict:

1) Automatically adjusts when FP strength changes due to losses.

2) Automatically adjusts when FP strength changes due to combining battle groups.

So it looks like you need to look at keeping losses below 20% to keep a susutainable BG
