recon uses APs?

Post by gwgardner »

I'm confused again. Look at this screenshot. I just did recon with this strat bomber group, and now it falls to 0 AP. Is that kosher?

Recon sighted enemy ships in the Central Pac, and I was going to see if I had the range to bomb them.

I don't recall recon using any APs in ToW.

Yes, recon is a movement, so it costs 1AP.

In the past were were able to recon more than once per turn per plane if you had AP's, but that has changed.

Not complaining seems ok now.

I can tell you that you can not reach the Central Pacific with that bomber.

I like the ToW way better. Recon, after all, does not represent an entire group out there on patrol, but special long-range planes that are part of every group.

So now, recon finds a target, and the unit can't do anything about it.

I vote for changing it back.

No, look again. Bombers have 1 AP
Tach bombers have 2 AP
Tach bombers can attack in same turn as recon.

And fighters have 3 - I send up the fighters for recon as I never find anything for them to attack!

Which brings up another problem: fighters are useless with regard to protection from carrier attacks in a given sea zone. They should be given an attack capability against carriers, as part of the carrier strength represents its CAP. And fighters should be given an interception role against carrier attacks.
