Scavenging

Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem is a highly enhanced new release of Close Combat, using the latest Close Combat engine with many additional improvements. Its design is based on the critically acclaimed Close Combat – A Bridge Too Far, originally developed by Atomic Games, as well as the more recent Close Combat: The Longest Day. This is the most ambitious and most improved of the new Close Combat releases, but along with all the enhancements it retains the same addicting tactical action found in the original titles! Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem comes with expanded force pools, reserve & static battlegroups, a troop point buying system, ferry and assault crossings, destructible bridges, static forces and much more! Also included in this rebuild are 60+ battles, operations and campaigns including a new enhanced Grand Campaign!

Scavenging

Post by CaptRio »

Hey guys,

How can I get more ammo in battle??.....I remember in CCIII that if you crawled over dead bodies (enemy or friendly) your soldiers would start scavenging for ammo and weapons. Is this the case in LSA?

Yup, they will scavenge.... Not sure though if it is best to crawl over them of just leave on top of them in ambush/defend....

I've found the more I try to get troops to scavenge the less likely it is to happen. Letting them go to do it on their own seems to be the surest way.

Same here.

Really piss me off, when they run out of bullets in the middle of a firefight and just stay there doing nothing even with frindlies bodies around them.

Definitely is a possible r/l situation. Some guys just aren't going to consider finding another operational weapon or ammo for whatever reason be it fright, panic, lack of technical knowledge, whatever. Personally I'd start picking up rocks if there weren't any operational weapons. [:D] Anything! But the truth is it simply isn't going to occur to everyone and even those it does occur to they might not be in the right frame of mind to carry it out.

That's perfect.

But is that the case or its a bug?

I don't think the frequency of this happening or not happening could be considered a bug per se unless it was really drastic. To be honest in the testing I've done in the course of us doing this build I've seen successful scavenging happen more than in previous builds. Maybe I just happened to notice it more? I guess my point was that there are a lot of factors at work that may be effecting how much they're scavenging that are viable reasons to keep them from doing so. Lack of ammo in friendlies weapons, under fire, etc.

It did happen in the American Civil War! Mind you, the enemy didn't have MG 42s then. [:D]

... so howcome rocks are not in the Weapons file?

Shouldn't be too hard to scavenge...just crawl (move slow) near or over dead/wounded bodies and your soldiers will scavenge new weapons.
Here's an idea for the next build...the ability for soldiers in the squad to share ammo amongst themselves.
Frequently you'll see a bunch of soldiers running out of ammo...but some squad members (fielding the exact same weapons) still has ammo to spare...this ammo should be distributed amongst the squad first before soldiers start scavenging for discarded weapons from the dead/wounded...especially if the have to switch to using enemy weapons.
Also maybe a feature where you can capture enemy support weapons and guns...and use them in the next battle (with limited ammo)...maybe also capturing enemy AFVs/Vehicles.  Maybe set a small percentage for a successful capture...but should be good fun to implement! [:)]
