What are the easiest campaign battles against the AI

Post by CatLord »

I am in the middle of a campaign with the Brits, and so far, "defending" seems to be the easiest battles. But I may be wrong as "Advance" battle could be easy as generally the ennemy is not as well prepared as when you "assault" and you have "points" superiority (although this may be very very different with a human player). "Meeting" are my worst, as the Germans tank are generally far better (early 42).

So, generally speaking, what is the battle type you find the easiest against the AI, and if you post a detailed answer, with which nation / what period and why (including theatre of operations)....

PS: I am not talking about scenario or special campaign, but using the campaign generator.

In my experience, the AI does much better on defense than it does on the attack.

Why bother

I seldom play against the AI anymore and when I do it is against a well developed and planned out senario. This is the only time the AI even has a chance. Ussually I plan Mega-Campaigns or Russian Steel. I get bored with AI.

The only reason for someone to play against the AI would be to develop combat game skills or try out a well developed senario. My only gruff with the Mega-Campaign senarios is that they are so long and I get so involved with them that I forget to save the game then my computer crashes to the desk top.

If you want to try some of the hardest fights against the AI try some of the senarios developed by Redleg (specificly "Red River") or Wild Bill. Also Lost Victories has some of the best senarios I have ever played.

Well,

I am not interested in a Mega-campaign in the Pacific and the other Mega-campaigns are not available anymore... :(

Though I agree with you, the AI is far easier to beat than a human player, but depending of the nation you choose, there are still some challenge to be faced (try an hypothetic full campaign with any minors, French included, for example; With rarity on, soon combats against major - US, Germany, Russia - becomes difficult).

The easiest way to make games more difficult when playing against the AI is to play with a small time limit. Take out a stopwatch and time how long it takes the AI to make its move. Then set your time limit to the same time that it took the AI.

The AI is only good for emulating early to mid war Soviet mass attack tactics. Start a battle with you getting 600 points and the AI with 2000. Now you will have a realistic and very tough battle.

Whenever I design a scenario I tweak the AI units in ways to make them behave more like a human opponent. That is why unit objectives, waypoints, different types of VO' and reinforcement locations are essential tools in making a challenging battle.
