Just so that it doesn't always have to be Paul saying it (i don't mind taking some flack fer ya Paul:) ).
Install problems are rarely the fault of software, but rather the user having a hardware permutation that could not be forecast. Additionally it can be the user improperly installing the software, again that doesn't make it the fault of the software.
And in response to re releasing the MCs, we have to take a step back and remember, Matrix requires more than 10-20 positive sounding voices on the Forum to confidently produce 100 200 plus cds.
Cds cost money, and they have to KNOW they can sell them in something like a reliable time frame (because bill collectors like to get paid in a timely fashion too hehe).

That is one of the reasons I created this poll, Les. Given enough time (which I don't know how long that would be) there may be enough voices heard that Matrix may well decide to do this. Perhaps if there were several hundred yes I want one's, then maybe it becomes viable.
I don't know what # they actually need to return a fair profit on their investment.
I know someone will cringe when they hear this, but maybe, and it's a big maybe, the concept of pre-ordering a re-release is a possibility. That would give them some sort of idea about how many to create, assuming this ever comes to pass, but then again I don't have to keep Matrix's books and deal with that end.
I'm not sure I am a big fan of the pre-order concept, but failing all other possibilities, at least it might be an option.

Me I never pre-order anything regardless of the product, but that's just me.
As for the survey Jim, hmmm, we have had a lot of success with surveys from a loyal dedicated input point of view, but there has yet to ever be a poll that has turned in numbers to give Matrix any cold hard determination of market potential unfortunately.
We loyal forum fans, just don't "do surveys" it seems.
It is obvious the forum has lot of readers, but the readers that don't vote are fairly numerous.

All valid points, Les. I have gotten so much enjoyment out of these MC's that this was something that I decided to put out to let other people possibly share this experience. I know what it's like to discover something too late (Novastar expansion disks for Steel Panthers, for one).
Whether or not it works, time will tell. As for me, I'll just keep on playing my MC's and waiting to see what happens with CL.

Sarge, The two disks I'm having problems with may be fine, I don't know, maybe I'm the only person who couldn't get them to work. I have a new computer, Win XP, all of my other SPWAW stuff works, I don't know. I tried the suggestions I got from the Teck forum, except the compleatly reinstall SPWAW one, but I still cant get them to install. Its probably me, all I can do is put in the disk and follow the on screen directions, beond that my computer expertise falls off sharply.
Several months ago there was an appeal to people in this hobbie to support Matrix so I purchased La Grande Army, UV, Lost Victories and Watchtower. UV and Grande Army installed without a hitch, the two I was really interested in were the Mega Campaigns ( the one's I can't seem to install ).
I'm not complaining, I would have sent in a donation to Matrix and not need anything in exchange just to support my hobbie, I mean it.
Getting back to my last post, I would like to have a disk with all of the Mega Campaigns and SPWAW vs. 7.1 all in one and working properly, I'll buy it.
I'll try to post my problem again in the teck forum and see if anyone can help, if not I'll donate the two disks to someone in need. I think I'll through in La Grande Army also, it doesn't seem to be my type of game.

For what it is worth, I have also had "trouble" with installing Lost Victories on an XP machine (not sure if XP has anythig to do with it though).
Sometimes they are very subtle hassles too.
I have had to install 7.0 then Lost Victories then the 7.1 patch.
I think (but I am not sure) the Lost Victories install routine has trouble with the full 7.1 being installed before the Lost Victories program.
This is not surprising as I have had numerous occasions where older software had trouble with newer software, that did not exist (and therefore could not have been accounted for).
If you do donate the cds though, I hope you locate a person that then goes and does a good deed as well (because if we all did more good deeds more often, the world would be a shitload nicer eh).

Just wondering...would the following be possible:
When an MC order comes in some Matrix Games person starts up a CD burner and makes a new disc..takes about 5 minutes. While the CD is frying he could print some covers with a colour inkjet printer. When these two tasks are done he'd take a special envelope US mail used to sell..it costs 5$, is made of sturdy cardboard and has worldwide airmail postage included. Put CD+cover in the envelope, write the address and drop in nearest mailbox.
I'd assume there wouldn't be that many orders/day so that you wouldn't need one full-time person to do this.
Or will some existing web store deal prevent this?

Time is money, precedent, a loss of professional credibility, just plain not the way business is done could all be reasons why Matrix might not seek to undermine their business ethics to make a quick MC disk at random.
Now you know and I know, that anyone could just burn a cd and mail it out. Heck I could be doing it,
The only thing that keeps me from doing that is of course that would make me a lousy @#%$*&@ jerk and no friend of Matrix.
Paul David and all the Matrix mob have worked darn hard to look like a decent business. They have marketed Mega Campaigns and many have bought them.
It would be a gross and unjust act to betray their previous customers by making a shame of their product.
The phrase "you snooze you lose" will just have to be the response for those that missed out on the MC disk.
Matrix might sell a "gold" set some day, or they might not.
I will buy one I suppose if I can. But life will go on if they don't.
Odds are my money is already seeking after the "next thing".
Been hoping against hope I can persuade the family that a video card upgrade is fair to all. In that way Combat Leader is doable.
Given a choice of Combat Leader of a MC gold cd, I am definitely more inclined to want the Combat Leader.

Voriax has a good idea with the CD Burning scenario. But, let's take it one step further.
I've been a hard-core gamer for 20+ years. In the majority of those years, I, along with most gamers, have read computer gaming magazines. Two of the top selling magazines, PC Gamer and Computer Gaming World, both offer a "demo CD" with each issue.
Would it be possible for Matrix to work out a deal with these magazine companies to include the North Africa campaign (along with SP:WAW of course) on the demo CD. This could possibly solve three issues:
1. The game would expose a large number of people to Matrix, which the exposure might would help sell the remaining Watch Tower inventory.
2. It would offer a "discontinued" product (North Africa) to those of us who are relatively new to the mega campaigns and missed out on the initial releases.
3. Matrix would not have to incur the cost of burning and shipping a new batch of CDs.
I remember reading William "the Colonel" Trotter's Wargame column in PC Gamer concerning Matrix Games and its Mega Campaigns. He had nothing but praise for the company and the game. So, I assume that the magazines should not have an issue with including it on the demo CDs.
However, I am not a magazine marketing gurue, so I don't know the cost involved with making such a deal. I just thought it was a descent idea and wanted to share it with Matrix. Anyway, I'm in dire need of the North Africa campaign, so I'll come up with anything to get my hands on it (LOL).

That gob of spit you see over there is this man's offering for how much I will offer for ANY magazine's low grade, cheap quality, unsupported worthless garbage demo cds.
Matrix might go the route of demos someday (if it interests them), but they won't be marketing to me any time soon through cds that only suffice to inflate the worth of PC publications.
I got badly burned once trying to buy Steel Panthers through a grossly expensive valueless publication once.....once mind you, I will never make the same mistake twice.
And the company's response to my email inquiring about dealing with a defective disk, was worthless.
Nope, Matrix won't be servicing my needs through uninterested magazines in the future.

After reading through these post several times over and giving it a lot of thought I voted no and the reason is I fear it will distract from efforts to complete CL. I am all for pushing to sell out what you have but printing new CD batches can get expensive and having them sit waiting for sales ties up funds better spent.
There seems to be a good number of new SPWAW recruits visiting here (and on other boards SPWAW is frequently mentioned as well). SPWAW has a lot of life left in it and its up to us to create new campaigns, scenarios, tournaments etc to bring these new guys into the Matrix family and not just for a couple weeks. Exposing these new guys to what Matrix has accomplished with SPWAW will show them why they need to stick around for future Matrix projects.
This game (with the added benefit of things like Ectizen's Mapthing and Chandla's toys) make it a package that will occupy the HD on any computer I have that it will run on. Mostly because its runs in the Windows environment and not DOS.
We also need to keep the regulars involved playing, teaching and doing other things. Keeping a solid (and happy) SPWAW player base will be the best thing to happen for CL when it's released since many of us will move on to that game.
Finally. What support does Matrix need from us that will generate revenue but minimize their expenses?

Hi BB when you install look and see if an extra folder is being created inside the mega camp folder. If so cut and paste everything up one level and delete that extra folder. I seem to recall there was even a specific order you had to load the MC for them to work.

I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!

Just talking out loud here, but does anyone know to which I am refering to, when I refer to the "gap in the name glitch"?
What I mean is the difference between Matrixgames and Matrix games.
Could this be the culprit in the install hassle?
Regarding Mega Campaigns or any very permutation of Steel Panthers (and their futures), I am inclined to think, that even if Combat Leader ends up perfection personified, I still find it hard to believe, that people will dump Steel Panthers like it was a 40 year old housewife in favour of a spirited 20 year old:)
Then again, I have a 38 year old housewife, and I would not trade her for the 20 year old hehe.
I think in the end, the future for Mega Campaigns and maybe Steel Panthers as a whole, will be in it's fans considering it a classic, and doing independent creations.
I think it is cool that Matrix gave us 3 Mega Campaigns.
What I want to know is, what are the legal entanglements, involved with non Matrix persons designing and selling their own unique supplemental Steel Panthers (WaW 7.1 friendly of course) software?
Is this even an option? Or are the fans out there with programing savvy (and cash of course hehe) even able to indulge this line of thinking?

Even though I bought Desert Fox way back when, and just ordered Operation Watchtower ( I missed the boat on Lost Victories), I would definitely be interested in a Gold Edition cd or download. I got my brother (Vietnam Vet, USMC) hooked on the game. I recently went cable modem and now he has me connecting to his server for 5-6 hour shifts of playing! I feel that this game has given me such enjoyment over the years, paying for it again is not that big a deal.

How many are left at this point? (IE: How many would each of us have to buy before you might consider reissuing MCNA?)Originally posted by David Heath
We are not planning to make any more CD in the near future until at least all of the Operation Watchtower CD are sold. Once we get to that point we will consider our options again.

Matrix Games

Personally speaking, if Matrix offered a package deal on SP:WAW 7.1 (or 7.11 with the new oob's) and all the MC's that would install all the patches and fixes to date automatically you'd have my credit card order for two sets tomorrow morning.
What, me worry?
