Assault on the Sauer: OB issues

Post by PeterD »

"Assault on the Sauer" scenario, Axis, Historical reinf.

Looking at the "OB - Organic Structure", out of 6 VGD Grenadier Regiments, 4 of them have their regimental heavy weapons companies attached to the division HQ. All of these units either start on the map, or have their own reinforcement schedule entries, so it's pretty easy to place those units back in their regiments, unless there's some really good (historically correct and all that) reason to annoy the player [:'(].

I also found it strange that "23 Bty (SP) 2 sWerfer Regt" was an organic sub-unit of the 316. In this case it's worth asking if that was intentional? In my local copy, I placed this unit under LXXX Korps HQ and duplicated the 316's reinf. schedule entries for it.

I didn't examine the Allies OB as I'm about to play this scenario [:-]

That was done intentionally, to keep the HW's located on the German side of the Sauer from holding back the line companies that have crossed the river, mainly for the German AI player. Historically all they had was a tow-cable operation that was not able to haul the heavy mortars and IG's.

There is no need to re-attach them until a bridge is built.

Not sure about the werfer battery, I'll check it out.

You understand that I mean they are _organically_ under the division(s)?

If I understand the reasoning correctly, then my 2 cent preference is for the player to detach those units if they are holding back the regiment for some reason. I would have to experiment a bit more with cross-river orders perhaps - although I just finished Nobody Comes Back as Axis, and had no problem other than the river itself [8|].

Peter, again I did this so that the AI German player would not have problems advancing the line units while it's organic HW were stuck behind the river. I found during playtest that this was sometimes the case.

Oops, I didn't pick up on the AI bit the first time. Thanks for your patient explanation.
