Wishful thinking for a feature I wish added!

Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem is a highly enhanced new release of Close Combat, using the latest Close Combat engine with many additional improvements. Its design is based on the critically acclaimed Close Combat – A Bridge Too Far, originally developed by Atomic Games, as well as the more recent Close Combat: The Longest Day. This is the most ambitious and most improved of the new Close Combat releases, but along with all the enhancements it retains the same addicting tactical action found in the original titles! Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem comes with expanded force pools, reserve & static battlegroups, a troop point buying system, ferry and assault crossings, destructible bridges, static forces and much more! Also included in this rebuild are 60+ battles, operations and campaigns including a new enhanced Grand Campaign!

Wishful thinking for a feature I wish added!

Post by JFalk68 »

I am new to the game and have played a couple of scenarios to get my feet wet and learn the system. Instinctively I used my mouse wheel, figuring that it would zoom in on a location I was centered on if I dialed it back or forth. Nope, no such feature.

With tiny soldiers it seems sort of odd that this is missing, the game should have some sort of scaling controlled with the mouse wheel. Just my thoughts from playing PC games that had such a feature.

Thanks for the suggestion JFalk68. It's a good one. The original CC2 and CC3 incorporated a zoom feature but it only served to accentuate the poor quality graphics resolution of those two releases. Perhaps why Atomic stripped it from CC4 onward?

I've just picked up Achtung panzer Kharkov where you can zoon right in and it's bloody horrible.   in fact after a few days of use I have come to believe that the CC fixed scale, top down mode is the only way to engineer and play this style wargame

I have to disagree. As long as you limit the zoom to something reasonable (no I do not want to be able to count the hair's on Private Ryan's ass) I think having a sliding zoom would be very helpful. One thing that drove me insane about a lot of RTS (C&C especially) is the inability to zoom. The three scales offered by CC aren't enough. Sometimes I just want to check LOS and see what's impeding it. I can't do that with fixed scale many times without it being a damn operation itself.

Why would you want to zoom beyond the current level anyway?
For me the only reason for zooming is to select a certain unit when bunched together but you can do that in the bottom pannel.
But a mouse wheel to zoom out (and in) is indeed useful as opposed to clicking the button in the lower left.

Did you read my post? I said because sometimes I want to see what's blocking LOS/LOF and it's damn near impossible to do that by backtracking up the line. Zoom would allow one to see what obstacles might be in the way.

If done correctly, it would be a nice feature. It would have to look nice at all levels of zoom

Sorry about that.
