Loading error

Post by Wotanist »

I just bought this game and installed it. The autorun feature works fine and all the links in it work, except the most important one. When I go to "play game" it gives me an error and says "not available." I have attached an image to show the problem. Any ideas as to what the problem could be? Thanks

Are you double-clicking or single clicking the "play game" link? AFAIK there is no required installation directory so that should not be the problem although it probably shouldn't be ruled out yet. Did you install to the default directory? Is it possible the autorun menu is looking for it in the expected directory and not finding anything? I don't remember for sure but I thin this error was coming up when users double-clicked on the autorun link rather than single click. Or double, double-click. Like I said I don't remember for sure. Matrix would know more since they created the installer and autorun menu's.

I only single click it. Initially I installed it to a different directory. However, I uninstalled it and reinstalled it under the default directory and still got the same error. It is very disappointing when something like this happens. I will ask for a refund if I cannot get it fixed.

My guess is this is an installer issue so I'll make sure Erik and Andrew see it so they can help you. They'll be more than happy to assist you in finding a solution.

Thanks. I hope they find a solution soon. Not much is more irritating, except perhaps death and taxes, then getting a game and not being able to play it right away.

Hi Wotanist,

This is not typical behavior for the game, to say the least - this is an issue specific to your system and we'll work with you to figure it out.

First, could you please post a DxDiag for us so that we can see your system specs?

Second, are you running this with an Administrator-level account?

Third, do you get the same error if you use the "Quick Start" link to the game in the Start Menu instead of launching it from the Game Menu (desktop shortcut).

Regards,

- Erik

Here is a DxDiag for you. I better be running with an admin level account. Eitherway, I tried running the game "as administrator" and it still gives me the same error. Third, I get the same error using the quickstart, the autorun, and when I tried running it directly from my C and D drive (depending on where it was installed at the time).

Installing DirectX didn't help at all, but perhaps I didn't do it right. When I view the display in dxdiag, it says all the DirectX features are not available. Hmm... This is irritating. Never should have "upgraded" to Win7.

I started thinking about this and getting very frustrated. Then the idea occurred to me. I recently installed Windows 7. I couldn't upgrade Vista, so instead I had to do a clean install. Well, I never thought of the idea that my drivers probably were never updated, so I went and updated my drivers. Voila! This fixed all my problems with Cross of Iron and Last Stand.

Thanks for all your help. :)
