MapMaker - 'Complexify' Lines

Post by Chief Rudiger »

There is an option in the MapMaker to simply lines to make the graphics less processor intensive to draw. Would you consider adding a button that does the opposite, so that you can drawn rough lines and then have the program interpolate extra points to make more of a curve. AUTOCad has such a feature and seeing as its just maths, should be fairly easy to code.

An example of its use would be for hair-pin roads. Unless you zoom in to the closest level and place points precisely it is hard to get curvy looking lines. The same is true of contours.

If such a tool was available you would be able to draw roads and contours quicker, at a lesser zoom level, with fewer points. This would greatly speed up map making and make the finished map look better. Yes, this would slow game performance but if it speed up map making then more maps will get made so, to me, it would be a price worth paying.

CR,

Use bezier points instead of corner points. It's already there in the MapMaker. But yes someone has to draw using the bezier points. You can select existing points and change them to bezier ones. Check out the MapMaker manual for details.
