Patch #1

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Patch #1

Post by Arjuna »

Hi all,

Just to let you know that we have just uploaded another replacement Game exe for our beta testers to test. This fixes all critical issues bar two. These two are very rare and because of their nature are not easy to track down. I will continue to pursue them, but will at this stage press on with the patch #1 regardless. If the testers give us the thumbs up by the end of the week, I'll ask Matrix to prepare a new installer for the patch. We'll then ensure this works OK and release it publicly.

Good news [:)]
I suppose we will get a full list of fixes in the readme of the patch?
Btw, what were the bugs you have been unable to track down?

Perfect timing, getting ready to do a new AAR. Will wait for the new patch then before diving in.

Keep up the great work!

On June 18 all reproducible crash bugs were supposed to have been fixed. A month has passed and still no patch. Disappointing.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread the patch could be given to Matrix at the end of this week, any chance for an update?  Did that happen or do we have a revised time frame?

Thanks.

That was so at the developers end. But as part of the quality assurance process, we go out to a beta test team as well as running autotest's 24/7. These did produce more errors. In any event, the testing this week has gone well and I plan to do up a full release build for MAtrix to build the installer from. The installer will then be tested and then it will be released....probably at the end of next week.

Arjuna... any plans for compensations?

If this software would have been a car, the seller would have got it back within 1 hour.

None of these problems were found during the beta test?

The crashes are somewhat random - some experience them and some don't. This game is extremely complex and at the time of release there were no critical bug reports coming in from the auto-testers or the manual testers. I understand the frustration from the paying customers that are unable to play every scenario in the game but believe me, when the game was released everyone testing the game was able to play the it without crashing to disk.

We started testing version 148 of this game in April 2007 and the release version I believe was 226. Thats nearly 80 builds over 3 years that were tested and at the same time developed scenarios for, including the research, mapping and the documentation.

This game is a niche within a niche market. Frankly I'm grateful that Dave and Paul made as far as they have without having to take up day jobs to support their families (as is the case now.) Please be patient.

I believe what you say.
I asked this because the problems seem to appear immediately after release, for many people.
I was absolutely certain that the game was stable, and in fact I bought the just released; also the high price seemed justified for me.
I've been patient for two months and will continue to be, only next time I'll try the demo first.

Thanks and sorry for my english.

The BFTB Patch Build 4.1.232 is uploading to Matrix now. They will work up the installer and we'll test that before releasing it to the public. If all goes well, this should be ready next weekend.

Would it be alright to ask for a list of fixes now?

Ah, we want the old game fixed but also want new, untested, features added.

You wonder why there are delays in getting these things on the market and patches distributed.

I have not found any problems with the game, but I dont do silly thing on my pretty basic laptop. The only thing running is the game, if I want to do other things I stop playing.

Maybe my patience comes from having bought numerous lemons over the years from S&T & SPI which might have been totally unplayable, except in the rare cases where addenda became available you had to workout your own setup or Combat Results Table.

Maybe the biggest mistake in this (and other Matrix releases) is giving too much notice of works in progress, I'd keep you wondering until I was sure the product was ready for release.

It seems you are a lucky man because it looks like many many people do have problems with your software. You guys actually did some betatesting on different computers at all?

Nice way to speak to a dissapointed customer.... dont expect me to pay for your software in the future.

Hwg, and you are running this on a MickeySoft OS for which you get updates and patches
to fix lousy programming every two weeks ... do you ask Billy for "compensation", too?

Actually i realy thought he is an official. I am not used to the forum ranks. "Matrix Legion of Merit" looked like an official to me.
