Yes you can in multiplayer. Also there is a how to at Slitherine forums modding section to change the Allied battles into Axis ones.
Conflict of Heroes "Most games are like checkers or chess and some have dice and cards involved too. This game plays like checkers but you think like chess and the dice and cards can change everything in real time."

The Soviets for a future expansion was discussed during the beta.

You got to be kidding! I need to modify the game, or pay for a future expansion, to play the germans? What moron thought this up?
Keep your "half game" and expansions. I'm glad I read the forums before purchasing.

That this game will be great to play against others is not in doubt.

That you can play either side in multi player is not in doubt.

That you CAN play as the Germans right now with THIS release is thus not in doubt.

That you can't play solo as the Germans is the only limitation.

And that means all the outrage is coming from people unwilling to play others.

Not to mention this outraged persons have also clearly missed all the comments about how the game is intentionally easy to mod, and thus future expansions likely will not be totally necessary.

There is no doubt the game is worth getting. The logic of the hysterical 'what I can't play Germans?' crowd is all that is in doubt.
I LIKE that my life bothers them,
Why should I be the only one bothered by it eh.

This might come as a surprise, but most people play the ai, not head to head. To release this without the ability to play germany (solo) is crazy. I'm sure many people would even prefer the german side.
If the game is meant for "head to head" play, then they could make that much clearer then they do.

I prefer the Axis side, NOT the British. Sorry JudgeDredd, nothing against you if you're lurking about. [;)]

I also only play the AI as I don't have time to play humans.

Cmon guys, you know what is up. This ain't rocket science. "They" will tell you that "you" should have read the feature list, which does state somewhat vaguely/clearly that you cannot play the axis side in campaign mode. Although I do feel it was kind of not so clear IMHO, none the less it is there.

Expansions soon to follow. It is the "new" marketing model that we will either live with, or quit buying this type of product.

I really do like the game, but that being said, I'm not happy about being lterally led down the garden path. "They" did give us 3 campaigns with lots of scenarios. [;)][:'(]

Reading this thread makes me feel a tad sorry for the Italians.  Seems when people want to play axis so much, it's only the German hardware they really want to get into.  No one wants the Italian CV 33, or the Carro Armato?  Seems they always want something different, like Panthers & Tigers.

Well let me tell you something.... there's no difference, it all comes from China!

:P

Game looks like something I would really enjoy playing....but I enjoy playing both sides and against the AI.

I'm another one w/ no time for the human play.

I agree...kind of makes you scratch your head why they did this...of course, I don't know a damn thing about programming, maybe it took too much time? Anyway, I agree...to put out a WWII computer game without the ability to play either side is baffling to me.

Nope, Italian equipment but not Italian voices.

When are "you" guys going to release the next expansion? I'll buy it, you win, I'm hooked. Cmon, I know you are holding out on me. I'll pay, you don't have to hold a gun to my head.

I know it's in this manure pile somewhere (digging frantically looking for the axis side). I don't want no stinking carcano or angel hair pasta. [;)][:D]

Let's just try to keep it all under $200 shall we?
