A summary of battle for the last 2 days. No snags yet and I've not returned the last turn.
- Took a long time simply to watch the replays.
I've just let some of the main actions remain in the reports because there were dozens of sweeps and bomber
missions each turn especially in Burma.
Air Battles Nov 17-18
In all I counted more than 250 4E sorties over Shwebo and Mandalay and despite all our flak and CAP presence
not a sigle 4E has been reported lost for any reason. I find this incredible and almost impossible.
- Weather forecasts for the area has been rain and t-storms for the last 2 days, this did not prevent a single
ac from flying for I've never seen such a massive Allied air effort in 42 before.
We fought back as good as we could, bombing enemy troops and flying prolonged CAP missions that several times
got at the enemy bombers. In reality our fighters would have swept down on the bombers from high altitude, shooting down
a number and then get embroiled in dogfights with the escort while now and then engaging the bomber formations.
- In AE sweeps now dominate the picture completely and any bomber intercept has to survice a dozen of them to
engage a single bomber.
Total air losses for Nov 17 was 52 Allied and 52 Jap ac.
Total air losses for Nov 18 was 53 Allied and 85 Jap ac.
In total 105 Allied and 137 Jap ac were lost.
Our only advantage is that fighting over friendly ground the number of killed pilots was lower than it could have been.
- 23 for Nov 18 I think.
Ground Combat
No combat on Nov 17, all fighting taking place on Nov 18.
- Our troops in Shwebo were all in red in regards to supply and Shwebo itself never had more than 20 supplies
over the last week. I just couldn't get enough in despite lying on a rail line a short distance from major bases.
3 or 4 days ago I decided against marching our troops out of Shwebo and leaving the place to Andy.
This may have been a costly decision, but it may also have opened an opportunity.
On Nov 18 I managed to march some units from Shwebo to Mandalay as I correctly observed that it would be impossible
to win a defensive battle without supplies. - It is a bit ironic that while our troops lies at a rail head and
close to major bases we cannot supply them. Allied troops on the other hand fighting without even a dirt road connection with
the main bases in India, they have enough supplies to WALK through the mountains and fight fully supplied from the
air and wherever.
I will not say that something is broken, but I think my belief in the supply system is getting thin.
The Allied assault at Shwebo achieved a 17-1 odds as we were without forts and supplies.
If this had been a jungle hex the result would most likely have been 1-2 despite everything.
- In total 2 divisions, 1 regiment and 4 tank units were routed.
According to my plan all our troops in the basin would have confronted the Allied army north of Magwe; instead a single tank
Brigade won the race between the "Stack" and "Mandalay" and halted our movement. The "Stack" was thus allowed to
move into Mandalay and engage half our army.
- The good thing about Nov 18 was the the Allied assault got a miserable AV and failed.
If Andy can continue to supply 100k troops, 1000 guns and 1500 vehicles in Mandalay from the air and Shwebo
on the other side of the river I'll be surprised (even though I'm not easy to surprise anymore).
Within 2 days I should have 3300 AV ready to attack in Mandalay.
- This is not enough time to march troops from Shwebo and unless there is some supply magic I hope to
drive "The stack" back into the river.
This will require a continued combat against the Uber bombers so I'm far from sure we can achieve more than
a stalemate.
The entire Burma Campaign is a big strain on my motivation to play AE as I just can't manage to justify
ground and air combat on these premises in the most hostile and least accessible theater of WWII [:(]

Something unheard of happened today! [X(]
After a combined 40 attempts at launching midget subs
a brave soul finally got into Colombo harbour. The choice of target was not so impressive but at least
a hit was scored on an AVP! Guess that counts for something... The midget got grounded when heading home.
One of our tankers near Palembang was hit, no fires fortunately so she'll be ok.
