Interesting initial placement.

Post by dandechino »

I found this on booting up arnhem bridge battle. I found that I could pick them up and drag them back to that location as well.

Yep, I believe thats coded as shallow water, in which case you can deploy units there,

Saw the AI set up a 20 mil flak gun in the shallow water, sneaky krauts...

Now this was really interesting. My troops could walk off the 20 ft high bridge and crawl around at will.

Hey Dandechino, I just checked out the map coding and there is no possible way that can happen UNLESS you've found a bug that has not been seen yet. In the attached image the teal shaded areas are the "bridge wall" elements that are impassable to soldiers and vehicles. One thing that might be happening in the instance you outlined is that the soldiers next to the bridge were there during deployment.

If you try placing the team next to the bridge, say 10 -20m away from it and place a move order onto the bridge itself you should get either a "can't go there" message and the destination point will be dropped or they'll attempt to make their way onto the bridge by one of the passable routes at the nearest end. Likely the former. But they definitely should not be able to go through the bridge wall. They may be moving under the bridge. In case you're not aware, LOS and movement under bridges on the lower level is a feature of this build.

I don't think the water should be coded as shallow... there are too many unrealistic deployments there when it is.... eg 20mm Flak sinking into the silt

Good suggestion. I agree too. It doesn't look right. Will make that enhancement.
