Suggestion to enhance walls and hedges.

Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem is a highly enhanced new release of Close Combat, using the latest Close Combat engine with many additional improvements. Its design is based on the critically acclaimed Close Combat – A Bridge Too Far, originally developed by Atomic Games, as well as the more recent Close Combat: The Longest Day. This is the most ambitious and most improved of the new Close Combat releases, but along with all the enhancements it retains the same addicting tactical action found in the original titles! Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem comes with expanded force pools, reserve & static battlegroups, a troop point buying system, ferry and assault crossings, destructible bridges, static forces and much more! Also included in this rebuild are 60+ battles, operations and campaigns including a new enhanced Grand Campaign!

Suggestion to enhance walls and hedges.

Post by Fred98 »

A player ought to be able to right click on any wall or hedge and a message pops up:

This wall / hedge will stop these type of rounds.

This wall / hedge will not stop these types of rounds.

I am sure others can think of other types of information that ought to be available.

In real life every wall / hedge is a different hight. For game play purposes let them be standard heights.

Height type “1”. A standing man can hide behind and not be seen. A vehicle rated “high” can fire over the wall. Other vehicles cannot fire over the wall.

Height type “2”. All vehicles can fire over the wall. A standing man can fire over the wall. A prone man cannot fire over the wall and cannot be seen behind the wall.

Right click on the wall / hedge and the player is given the height type.

I'm just looking out my window at a wall and a hedge.

No message pops up telling me what type of rounds it can stop.

It indirectly does that already Joe. The indication of cover should give you a good idea of what it provides. Also in the game options you can have your soldiers outlined in a color that indicates what type of cover the terrain their positioned on provides.

Unfortunately bullets often go through walls inspite of that indication.

I'd just settle with an official fix for the errors and anomalies in the elements file data [:)]

I agree with you...that's too much battlefield info...no photo recon could tell you that stuff..vs where objects are, elevation changes to a degree and other ground features.

but realistically your stone wall is going to protect you better from some directions better than others, it will rise and fall with the lay of the land etc so there isn't one size fits all

Wood walls even worse, a wooden paling a fully jacketed round 7.92 or 303 would rip straight through, a heavy post, yeah okay it'd probably go straight through that too truth be known.

What you say is true in real life.

But in the game we never know whether it is true.

In the game we do know that the cover provided by a paved road isnt great.

The current right click implementation is often misleading in this regard.
Also, the old cover/concealment mixup doesnt appear to have been corrected.

Yeah, there is something wrong with right click and soldier outlines when set to cover.... they don't correspond.  (it's being looked at)
