Where'd you find out about ToS?

Post by Korgmeister »

I'm curious to find out where the fans of Titans of Steel found out about this wonderful game.

Personally, I found it from a review at Home of the Underdogs when I was searching for some squad sim games. Even if I'm not terribly good at them, I love squad sims like UFO, XCOM, the Front Mission series, etc. Oh yeah, I also love giant robots...it's an anime thing =P

Now I will admit that despite hating 3D graphics with a passion, I am an extremely superficial person. And my first reaction was to see the screenshots and go "Droooool!".

I still maintain my belief that ToS has the prettiest interface of any squad game I've seen - even if the pilots aren't as cute as the ones in Powerdolls ;) (Well, maybe they are. I gotta work on my visual imagination, hehe!)

So yes, I downloaded it - read the manual...got killed badly. Read all the documentation again. Got killed not quite as badly several times. Checked out the strategy guides - got killed only slightly terribly. Then I went to the forums and had a good old whinge - with those tips I finally started winning.

And yes. Now I'm here, the Mad Scientist of pessimistic ToS design and semi-newbie pilot =P

As long as Larkin caught me lurking about, I figured I'd post...

Anyway, I found ToS at the exact same site. Originally, I was looking for something to help my strategy with a different online game I play. I do fairly well, against the AI, but I've never had the time to play networked.

Hmmmm. Maybe this week, while my wife is visiting her parents...

I found TOS about a year ago when i had a differant computer. I was looking for something with Mechs but kinda more stragey esque than usual mech games. I found early version where ya had 3 programs and had to load each one separately(however you spell that). I got into for a couple days and then suddenly the game would load an play but i couldn't move or do anything. I couldnt figure it out got really pissed an finally gave up. But i never found a game like it and it stayed in my brain. So on a whim about a month an 1/2 ago, i rechecked the site an low and behold there was a new version. Even though i suck badly, i love this game, and it was worth the wait.

I can't even remember when or where it was I found ToS. I must've played it for close to 3 months before ever realizing there was an entire forum around for me to play with people online. Then I spent another 5 or 6 months unable to play online with anyone because of the stupid firewall at my apartment's DSL service. Then I finally got real access in the form of cable, and had a nice long time of blasting and being blasted by people. Then money ran out, lost the cable, and in fact any internet service. I'm still waiting to get one at home and be able to play again - that was probably half a year ago or more. Soon, though, I hope to be back and tearing people up. Especially you, Hetz. I miss our hours of mutual death. :D

I found a link to the ToS-website on a italian site.
I downloaded the zip, and I installed it on my PC.
I liked the game very much, and I'm still playin' with it :)

I got it from a finnish computer magazine's cd.

That was version 1.??? very old and imo the bst version. Then the game went to the acolyte and stuff version and I hated it. Didn't play it more than a few trys and now I'm playing the newest version daily. It's great, but still I think the first I played (which I think was 1.1) was best.

I don't know exactly. The first version I played was great. I played it untill I had a fully maxed pilot..

Then I got the version 1.2 I think. The musics changed (they started to do a screechy sound after 5 secs of playing, must be my soundcard, Live!), the blast animations changed (to worse at that point imo) and the level restrictions of piloting different sized titans.
Now that's better when you can pilot an assault with a total newbie, but you can't increase the skill in it. I like that better now.

But I think the main thing is that the 1.1 was faster to play. Some minor things as message clicking with right was faster than in the recent versions. Sure I could cut the amount of mssgs shown, but I like to get all the info.

The first was great, the next versions went to worse, but 1.4 the warring suns jumped back to great-level.
And what I have seen from the commercial version, well it's a must buy, if it comes to sale in Finland. If it's just on sale on some web shop, well I can't have it then, 'coz I've learned that they only accept credit cards and I don't have nor can I get one yet.

But anyways, the game is still great. Haven't have luck in getting any of my friends playing it which is a shame...

Ekohippi, I have some good news for you... ToS:WS will be available from Stockmann department stores (Micronia osastot) all over the country. We carry all of Matrix Games' games from now on. Have a look at this web site.

Jes! Kiitoksia Tuomas!

Thank you Tuomas! My personal saviour! This is great. I hope more companies would work like this..darn hard to get any little unknown foreign game without a c-card..

Kiitoksia muuten palautteesta.

Okay, got this clear. So now we wait...

Thank goodness I have Visa. Postal charges are going to be a pain in the arse to this arit dirtball of a country, though.

Perhaps I can convince Mummy dearest to pay for it as a Christmas/birthday present.

I don't know how Matrix Games ships their products, but if it goes out by FedEx...or if you can somehow arrage that...I believe FedEx has a fixed 'out of country' rate for shippping. Clearly it'd still be more that from the US to Canada or anything, but at least you wouldn't get nailed with any hidden costs, or the price changing on you.

At least that's my experience.

Matrix ships with UPS, United Parcel Service. They've served me well, many times. You can track the package all the way. They take care of customs and taxes and send you a bill afterwards.

No nyt kirkastuu.. Kyllä alalaitaan tulee maili osoite näkyviin, kiitoksia.
Selaimeni on Internet Explorer 5.5
