Unit pics too cartoonish?

The team behind the award-winning game Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive early days of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris is the first in an innovative series of operational World War II wargames that also include a strategic element. The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris simulates Germany’s military successes in Poland and France in 1939 and 1940 (including also a hypothetical “Sea Lion” invasion of Great Britain).

Unit pics too cartoonish?

Just sa this and love the maps but the unit pics seem too cartoonish or bland. Could they be replaced with blanc and white photos?

Of course, this is all personal preference, but I love those pictures!

I find fine the unit portrait but i prefer "kill" the soldier face dont like it, prefer see arty with crews and infantry units only as a group of soldiers even better than black and white photos for example vehicles looks great [&o]

PD: but i think that in units image see mods could be easy [:D]

I would also like to see more realistic pictures instead of these cartoons.

Guys, these are not cartoons. Art is certainly subjective, but these were hand drawn by Nicolas Eskubi, one of the best wargame/boardgame artists around who we commissioned for this task. Here are some of his credits:

MMP Staff Artist.
Winner CSR Awards for Best Wargame Graphics:
Fire in the Sky (2005)
A Victory Lost (2006)
Battle Above the Clouds (2009)

These are meant to be basically like the kind of art you see on a great board wargame - ASL or something similar.

Here's a larger pic as an example:

I think the artwork looks fantastic, especially like in Erik's screenshot with it being close up and crisp in high resolution. The unit cards aren't really "cartoony", I think they are great drawings though I admit the faces on the infantry unit cards are a bit awkward.

A big thumbs-up for the unit artwork; Eskubi is legendary in board-wargaming.

More importantly, the zoomed-in  map and on-board units look terrific! Every bit as good as a top class board game.
Cheers

I like the artwork too and the map looks awesome. Does it have the ability to display a hex grid overlay for those of us who are a little spatialy challenged? [;)]

Here's another one - the goal wass indeed to have it look just as good or better than a great board game and I think that goal has been achieved. That OOB display is expandable and clickable by the way. Click on a HQ and it expands the sub-unit tree. Click on a unit and it goes to where that unit is on the map.

Here's another one, showing some of the strategic cards you can play while in the scenario and also some of the French North African units.

French Armor... that's all for now, but I hope it helps you see how cool this game is.
