The beta patch does not work for me.

After I had overcome the problem with the dead link and managed to download the patch I applied that immediately only to find out that the game won't run. No matter whether I use the launcher or click the .exe file in the game directory after a few seconds all I get is the maessage that the application has to be shut down and that's it. Obviously I have been changing the locations, reinstalling etc., but everything in vain. So far I haven't found a thread addressing that specific issue so I am getting a little paranoid. I am using Win XP OP on both my machines and still no joy.

You can run a 'DxDiag' and post it here so that Ralph might take a look to see what the problem might be (see 'How to get a DirectX Diagnostic File' in the support section). Some of us have the XP Athlon processor which creates the won't open problem (as seen in the '3.4 won't open' thread).

Another problem we're seeing is that some people are accidentally installing it into a directory that does not have the the original game installed.

Aw yes, Dear Sirs, I am ashamed that I had failed to locate that thread before posting mine, but that was a very brief search throughout the forums, I really did not want to multiply threads regarding the same issuee as indeed it seems to be the case. This machine has an AMD Athlon CPU so at least we all are on the right path, some circumstancess are similar and recurring.
