South Pacific (november 11th - 12th 1943)

The intel has become more accurate. There are several airfields that are between size of 4-5 around Guadacanal. It seems he has been building up here.

Another note worthy thing is that I think he has anywhere between 400-700 aircraft gathered here also.

Allied LBA bombers did fly missions againts Tulagi, Lunga, Munda and Port Moresby. Only Munda is getting decent hits and has 80% airfield damage. He can fly CAP there but no bombers.

Carriers launched strikes againts enemy supply ships unlodiang at Guadacanal. The casualty levels did rise up due to heavy resistance of japanese airfoce untis.

Damn... I was for much better results. Another assault is ordered next turn also since fatigue/distruption levels are not high.

Stay tuned for more action.

December 1943

Post by aztez »

Yeat again been somewhat busy with RL stuff.

The game has progressed few weeks and we are now in early december 1943.

I think the best way to start this update is with intel screen from early december.

The past few weeks has been bloody in terms of air to air combats.

More about this on the theatre updates though.

Burma (november 14th - december 4th 1943)

The operation jugle fever is ongoing at the moment.

RAF and US airforce has been very aggressive here in past few weeks.

We have hit Meikhtia, Magwe, Myithkina, Schwebo and Mandalay airfields. Most of these are now 45-85% damaged.

The amount of destroyed aircraft could have been higher but the main thing is that Japanese have withdrawn their airgroups out of central burma into Rangoon.

I think he or at least had 150-200 aircraft there a turn or two ago. Since he has withdrawn there time to pay him a visit and show that there are no safe bases to occupy here.

There is around 150 fighter sweep ordered backed up by some 60-80 4E bombers targeting Rangoon. If we strike lucky he has increased headaches coming up.

The allied fighters have done solid fighter sweeps lately. This is mainly due to two things... a) training increases and b) the amount of fighters ready and deployed here. This has allowed me to fly out againts multiple bases here.

I also think that the newer aircraft ie. Spitfire's have been adding up here.
In total there has been 300-500 aircraft lost in air to air combats. (This is total number for both sides added up)

The ground campaign is already in motion. Allied troops will start advancing towards inner Burma.

The battle has started at Myithkina where we encounterd stiff enemy resistance...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ground combat at Myitkyina (64,42)

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 33888 troops, 560 guns, 212 vehicles, Assault Value = 1277

Defending force 17755 troops, 148 guns, 44 vehicles, Assault Value = 647

Allied adjusted assault: 484

Japanese adjusted defense: 2014

Allied assault odds: 1 to 4 (fort level 6)

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), forts(+), preparation(-), fatigue(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
507 casualties reported
Squads: 1 destroyed, 39 disabled
Non Combat: 2 destroyed, 22 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 3 disabled
Vehicles lost 11 (2 destroyed, 9 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
3143 casualties reported
Squads: 15 destroyed, 235 disabled
Non Combat: 17 destroyed, 263 disabled
Engineers: 2 destroyed, 40 disabled

Assaulting units:
111th Chindit Brigade
72nd British Brigade
39th Indian Division
11th (East African) Division
81st (West African) Division
77th Chindit Brigade

Defending units:
29th Division
112th Infantry Regiment
16th Naval Guard Unit
1st Hvy.Artillery Regiment

The newest patch seems to have pretty much taken out LBA bombers on ground combat missions. The damage done is moderate to say at least.

So, if anyone has an good advice on how to maximize the airsuperioty now gained at Burma againts his ground forces than would love hear about it.

South Pacific (november 14th - december 4th 1943)

Allied carriers conducted some operations deep into Solomons in mid november 1943.

These served a couple of purposes. The main thing was to reduce his lba power here and secondly buy time to build up forces / bases gathered here.

Now keep in mind that these operations were done same time with Burma airwar so this was to give us multiple effects.

The good thing is that we did lose any carriers only aircraft which I can replace with skilled crews.

The carriers are currently 95% battle ready. This is good thing since Operation Duck will commence soon.

Our heavy bombers have visited Munda, Lunga, Tulagi, Thousand Islands. Gili, Port Moresby and Russell Island. All of these are currently "heavily" damaged except Port Moresby and Gili.

LBA fighters have also done good job in their sweep missions.

Currently it seems Dave has moved bulk of his aircraft towards Rabaul and northern Solomons.

One thing also worth of mentioning that we do not need to seize everything here. Just few bases and leave his strong garrisons rotten up here.

I know he has +20 000 both at Tulagi and Lunga. The recon is becoming more accurate day by day.

We have several thousand worth of AV gathered here in terms of ground units.

...that not bad at all. The recon shows 200 enemy fighters gathered at Rangoon. Many of these squadrons must have high fatigue and low morale after these strikes.

So I will conduct another bombing and sweeping next turn also.

Basically it is all down to killing as many pilots as we can and not worry about our losses that much.

At Myithkina though couple of things happened. Firstly our ground assault was stopped with no forts being reported reduced.

Another thing duly noted was that our launch of 150 bombers on ground combat strikes hit pretty much nothing there. These guys were set on 10 000 feet bombing runs.

Since that does not seem to cause any troubles I have now set 50% of them on ground and 50% on airfields attacks. At least we can burn some of his supplies here.

...not bad results here. To balance things though our bombers did another awfully ineffective run at Myithkina.

I think we are bombing the jungle instead of japanese troops.

The scheduled operations will commence as soon as everything is organized.

Pacific (december 9th 1943 - january 1st 1944)

A couple of weeks have passed in terms of gametime. Now it feels kind of good to hit 1944 and this will definately drag into 1946's.

We are organizing troops and transports. The good news is that operation Scorpion is in motion. This was launched on 30th december 1943. More details to follow soon...

As for the later weeks in december 1943. The most action has definately been at Burma. Allied troops managed to capture Myitkina after some fierce ground battles. After this enemy seems to be withdrawing towards south with allied troops trailing them.

The fall of Myithkina was good and as said objective 1. has been accomplished. Now, I have decent size aifield and I'am shipping in tons of supplies via my transport aircraft.

Airwar was very intense but now japanese seem have given up. At least for time being... personally I guess the pilot losses just became too high to bare.

I have included an pic from the current situation at Burma. Our offensive is at full swing with hefty reserve waiting orders around Diamond Harbour and Dacca.

In southern pacific... well no enemy aircraft spotted around Guadacanal. Recon indicates his fighters and bombers placed on Rabaul currently. The same can be said about his naval assets here.

The main thing is burn his supplies here and prepare for future battles.

Overall things are still solid for the japanese but I steadily increase the pressure around the map so we shall see. One thing for certain though.. erstas is very very very good player in this game.

You need to bomb at 6000ft with level bombers to start to have impact on ground troops, with GrBomb skill 60+

Sardaukar: That is the problem than. Most of aircrews are 40-50 low GrBomb skills and their high GrBomb is much higher though.

Well, that something I need to live with it for now.

Burma (january 2nd - 12th 1944)

The offensive continues here.

The good news is that IJA 29th division is now circled at Katha and will be wiped out.

Additional naval guard unit + artillery will see their doomsday there as well.

That was an a bit of an nasty suprise though since my recon flights did not detect these troops.

In the airwar allied side is dominating. Last turn though we did encounter some Sally's and Zero's. These were flying missions againts Katha.

Naturally now we need determine where these came from since most of the airfields are now closed.

Basically Army group B and C are closing into their objectives. While the Army group A is waiting on the wings near Akyab.

Operation Scorpion (january 2nd - 12th 1944)

Now it is time reveal the Operation Scorpion. This is the invasion of Marshall Islands that will start within next couple of days.

We are going to invade the following atolls.

* Kwaleijin
* Roi-Namur
* Wotje
* Mili
* Maloelap

This is an major offensive through CenPac and the idea is to combine our central and southern thrusts.

If this goes as planned we are threatening to isolate enemy troops garrisoning the Solomons and New Guinea.

The amount of ships and firepower gathered here is massive and I do expect japanese intervention here.

Allied recon indicates he has sizeable airfields at Tarawa, Ponape and Kusaie. I have layed out minefields on these bases.

I know he has 200-300 LBA aicraft at Rabaul that can easily be flown out here.

Allied submarines will also be involved in numbers.

The pic shows allied invasion fleets closin in here...

Marshall Islands (january 13th - 14th 1944)

The allied carriers along with the invasion TF's have reached Marshalls Islands. Next turn the TF's will split up and start their offensive actions.

First waves will hit the beaches at Miri, Wotje and Maloelap. The second wave will move forward towards Roi-Namur and Kwaleijin.

No sign of enemy naval forces nor LBA aircraft but I think we will see quite a lot of them next turn.

I think this whole invasion will be quite brutal in every sense of an word... hopefully I'am wrong but I doubt it.

The allied carriers flew some missions to begin this operation here last turn:

Thanks Rob! This PBEM has gone long distance.. well another "2 years" to go though! [:D]

Lately been absolutely swamped with RL work. Thus meaning the brain cells are not that sharp when you do turns late at night.

Other than things are running forward. Definately need luck since I feel Dave is playing excellent... no mistakes not a even a sniff of it.

How have you been? Noticed that you guys restarted your PBEM. I must catch up that once this hectic schedule goes away.

I will post an pic when turn arrives.

He has however bulk of his fleet intact. I wonder whether I have actually sunk any carriers up to date.

This ofcourse means that I fully expect him to commit his forces soon. I would not be suprised if this Marshall operation turns into total carnage.

Actually don't have a clue where his carriers and battleships are... my guess is that these are around Truk region but that is just an educated guess.

Next turn we will hit the beaches at Roi-Namur and Kwaleijin atolls. These landings will be supported by US battleship bombardment runs.

Allied destroyers also hit several enemy submarines lurking around Marshalls.

The carriers did sink couple of PB's and AK's while hitting two enemy tankers as well.

Our submarines also gave us valuable recon information. It seems that IJN is moving towards Marshalls as expected. This report came from near Ponape and I seriously doubt this is lone surface combat TF!
