RE: Matrix let down
First you say you "avoided" the security codes on Matrix's site that allowed you to download the game without paying for it, then you claim you "borrowed" the game from a friend.
You sound like either a thief or a liar, or perhaps even both. If you wanted to know what the game was like, you could have easily waded through the discussions here on this site (complete with map downloads, and it's all free legally) that talked about all kinds of details of this game. There's dozens of after action reports as well, so you've got no defense at all saying you had no idea what this game would or wouldn't allow.
In short, you're backtracking off your initial claims of stealing the game, and have no idea why everyone's jumping down your neck about it.

RE: Matrix let down
A thief,a troll, a wanker and a bunch of names not permissable on this forum. I'm totally amazed at the "testicular fortittude" of such an individual. I'm in hopes that the mods will lock, and delete this thread. Now that I've posted to it, I feel and urgent need to go wash my hands! [:@][:(]

RE: Matrix let down
I have seen it all a pirate complaining that the game is crap on the official forums , jeez some people have a lot of gall. Go and work and buy the game like all of us did.
RE: Matrix let down
I can't help thinking that the regulars of this forum are particularly susceptible to trolls like this idiot. We do take this game very seriously. Such things as honesty and giving the developers the cash to continue making the games we love, is about 3 steps too far down the cause-and-effect chain for an 'instant-gratification' 'the-world-owes-me-something' type like our thread starter.
I am going to try and convince myself that this response is actually aimed at other forum regulars rather than a clumsy backhand at this twit; I don't think I buy my own rhetoric though (damn!)

This should get the thread locked and deleted.
" This is a typical liberal whiner, wondering why he has to pay for it, and why they cant make it easier for him to understand."
I at first thought that he may have just been a teenager and didnt understand that not evrything in life is given to you. But after rereading the post, it appears he put way too much time and effort into trying to steal it, and then getting upset that he couldnt get it to work, to be a teenager.
My kids dont have that much attention span.

One of the serious problems in planning the fight against American doctrine.... is that the Americans do not read their manuals, nor do they feel any obligation to follow their doctrine

I scoped this game out for weeks before i finally found a decent download that found a way past matrix games over-the-top security codes, im an honest person but im an avid believer in the try before you waste $100 policy.
...
and then:

...
Firstly, i borrowed the game off a friend, so the fingerpointers can settle down a little and go back to harassing neighbors or something eh.
...
So which is it?

I don't really have a big problem with the guy borrowing the game from a friend to see if it was something he wanted to buy. It's an expensive game for most purchasers, and given what he said he was looking for from it, would have been a waste of his money.
The "gall" arises from his complaining about it on this forum. That he was too dumb to gain all the information he needed for his purchase decision by reading this forum is possibly forgivable. That he was dumb enough to complain about it to THIS audience puts him "beyond the pale". What a loser.[8|]

i drew the line when my large force of 4 BB and 6 DD are ALL DESTROYED in one turn when i noobishly sailed into a port with "mines" So in reality the whole fleet watched one ship get hit, then another, then another, yet they sail like suicidal lemmings into the minefield and i had no way to alter orders mid-turn. How realistic! Why spend months even years creating such a complex game yet fall short in the most critical aspect of any wargame ... COMBAT! I mean of course realistically the admiral of my fleet would have changed course (much like the transports do under surface threat) as soon as the first ship got hit, so 1, maybe 2, 3 at most ships should sink, not all, thats just 100% stupidity.
If you think ships travelling at speed and/or in bad weather conditions can simply change course with immunity once in a minefield then you clearly have never read about HMS Niger and convoy QP13 in June 1942 or HMS Neptune and Force K in the Mediterranean in December 1941.
That said, losing all ten ships seems a little unlucky (none damaged? all lost?), but may be it was just an unlucky "throw of the dice" - I can't believe that is the outcome everytime a fleet enters a minefield in this game.

warspite1,
You forgot to mention the outcome of the naval battle which led to the decision to land on Gallipoli. Obviously the OP is totally unaware of it as the British/French pre-dreadnoughts just turned into the previously undected 8th (or was it 9th?) mine line.

True, your commanders are lemmings in WITP. That's why some people are uncomfortable playing more than 1-day turns.

I am afraid my WWI knowledge is a little limited - hence the WWII references only. The only other thing I forgot to ask was whether, in the game mentioned previously, the ten ships were all lost to mines or whether damaged vessels were lost to subsequent air attack; any surviving vessels being sitting ducks for nearby aircraft, either at the time, or when light came if the naval force entered the port at night - that may have been a factor in such a 100% loss?

Or what Port was involved and which Port was the TF in question set t return. Did he send a SCTF to Truk with home port of Sydney and then lost the ships to progressive flooding on the way home. Also with the mine limts in AE, we don't normally see such devasting mine warfare results. Something really important is missing here or the guy just had an amazingly bad set of dice rolls

RE: Matrix let down
Who's guessing he tried to move a fleet to Manilla with Bataan still fully mined or something similar ? That would explain why literally all his ships ran into mines.
The AE-Wiki, help fill it out
RE: Matrix let down
Wouldn't be surprised at all to know that styer is just fishing for a like minded individual so he/she can get a code to update the stolen game. This thread should be locked and the account deleted. Piracy is no friend to the developers nor game buying public.
